Full Version: Why NS 2 will rock in source

I know that most of you here know what source is capable of. What I love most about source is displacements and blend textures. I created a real simple blend texture of dirt and a infestation material from ns then built a real simple displacement in hammer. I used dod to run the map and here are the pictures. this really only took like 3 mins to do, texture and all. I cant wait to see what textures we will have for ns 2 and the displacements are going to be crazy nice looking. Anyway, cant wait guys.

Infestation will be working differently in NS2...

no need for texture magic, check this out: http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/news/2006...mic_infestation

Yay Day of Defeat: Source tounge.gif

There may still be areas that are infested before the game has begun Chupacabra.

yeah i think they said they were testing the infestation, so i dont know if they decided to keep it or not, even if they do, i would think you would want some infestation texturing going on. anyway, displacements alone will create some cool hive areas

So displacements will make NS2 the great game it is? I'd love to live in your world where every cloud has a silver lining.

Well, good point, they haven't really said if there will be any infestation apart from ID.... I just thought that after they made this concept test with different amounts of ID they decided to cut down on infestation a bit (if there would be ID + normal textures than there would be too much infestation - which they try to avoid, at least that was my interpretation).

Actually, what really will make NS2 "teh pwn" is ragdoll-gorge-corpses, and you know why

oddly enough,. though many have claimed that lighting effects in ns are outdated, I believe the new lighting will have the most effects on the eiry environments. Not dark, but high contrast and hard shawdows.

Meh, ragdolls are way to rubbery... I just hope they will find a way to fix this "awesome" engine's sticky collision system or lose it all together. I mean if the alien side is supposed to be fast pace, you do now want to get grabbed by all the crap laying around, source is not at all impressive when you put the Havoc system in a net environment... TF2 for instance has removed or clip brushed most sticky stuff (no random crap laying around either)

Ligthing will indeed be amazing as source can do that and make it look pretty.

HL2 utilizes the Havoc physics engine, that is why it seems to "rubbery". There has been games that use the Havoc physics engine without the ridiculous rag doll physics. While I am not sure if that is something the development team is allow to change for NS2, I think most people would like to see it done away with.

If you really want to see crazy ragdoll physics, play Tony Hawks Project 8. It is just crazy. (Yes, they do use the Havoc physics engine too).
