The hive is the most important alien growth. It is a large organism, that hangs from the ceiling in special map locations. The Kharaa need a hive to spawn and respawn. Any alien standing within 500 units of a hive is healed at a rate of ?? health points per second. In NS game mode, the gorges can build new hives (to a maximum of three), and they are crucially tied to evolutions (see "Alien Evolutions," below).
