Commander
From NS community wiki
The Commander is the leading person of the Marine team. Every player starts off the round as a marine and any player can become the Commander by entering the Command Chair (also known as CC). While in the Command Chair the Commander takes on a completely different role from his marines. The Commander has an overview of the entire map (which looks like this: Comm-Screenshot) and can do various things such as build structures, drop supplies and give orders to his marines. While being the Commander, he is not directly attackable but cannot directly attack or move either.
Gameplay
The Commander has a very different role from his marines. The commander has a complete over view of the entire map and can performs many tasks his marines cannot. The Commander can build structures (which his marines need to later assemble) and research upgrades or add-ons (such as weapon upgrades or hand-held grenades). He can drop supplies (such as medpacks) or equipment (such as weapons) to his marines. The Commander can also recycle any marine structure, which removes the structure from the map and returns a portion of the buildings initial cost. Finally he can give his marines orders via text, voice communication or through a built-in system called Waypoints.
Resources
The Commander manages Resources (the game equivalent of money) which he uses to do things like build structures or drop supplies. The marines start off with 100 resources and must expand to gain more resources. Resources are only obtainable by two ways; from buildings called Resource Towers (which give resources at regular intervals) or from marines killing alien units (known as RFK). The commander is the only person on the marine team who can spend resources.
