Combat
Combat is a very fast, action oriented gamemode. Players are given experience for killing or being near teammates when they kill the enemy. Enough experience leads to points that can be spent on technology or upgrades to better eliminate your enemies.

There is no structure building or resource gathering in this gamemode. Gameplay is simpler and is therefore recommended for the newer player. It was designed to familiarize players with NS and is meant for a smaller number of players.

Combat games can be found by joining servers running maps with the prefix co_ (i.e. co_angst, co_faceoff).

Marines
The object of the game for marines is to eliminate the hive of the aliens within the time allotted. Marines spend their points on various weaponry and upgrades. Check out the Marine Combat Tech Tree for more information. When a marine dies, they spawn back at base with all the upgrades and weapons they have chosen.

As in any strategic FPS, winning in Combat requires a mix of arms all supporting each other to win. Moving in groups and checking for ambushes is encouraged and enforced.

The marines are considered the attacking force, since sitting back and defending until time runs out is a sure way to lose.

Aliens

Aliens win when they have defended their hive in the time allotted OR have destroyed the marines' command chair. See the Alien Combat Tech Tree for more information. Aliens can use their points to evolve into higher lifeforms or to get upgrades. When aliens die in Combat, they respawn as a skulk back at their hive with all their upgrades. Any points they used to evolve into a higher lifeform are credited back to them.

Aliens, as do marines, work best when supporting each other as different lifeforms. Players should learn how to use their hivesight to find and work with their teammates.

Combat wavespawn takes 5 seconds plus 2 seconds for every dead player, up to a maximum of 13 seconds. So if 3 aliens are dead, they will all have to wait 5 + 2 + 2 = 9 seconds to respawn.

The Kharaa are the defending force. They should be setting up ambushes and using baiting traps to best take down the marines.
