It's rather hard to believe, so brace yourself: as of midnight tonight, Natural Selection is now feature complete. It's been almost two years in the making, but commander mode, the particle system code, 27 weapons, nine alien upgrades, a dozen marine upgrades, over a dozen Structures, a couple NSTRs, and so much more, has all been created. That's not to mention anything about the hundreds of hours spent by the rest of the team on the concepts, models, textures, maps, writing, sound effects, music and everything else that's necessary to make a game.
More features will be added in the future, but right now, we have everything we need for a solid first release. We intend to spend the next few weeks bug-fixing, polishing, balancing and finishing up art tasks. When we decide it's good enough, we'll release Natural Selection for free to the public.
Thanks for your hard work everyone, this is a real milestone. We're almost there.
And to everyone that's waiting to play, believe us, no one wants to finish this more then we do...
The official map submission guidelines have been posted, and a date has been set. All maps that will be considered for official inclusion in Natural Selection need to be playable by Friday, June 28th. Check the here for the specifics.
The NS team hopes to be feature complete by the end of June, after which we'll continue to refine, balance and polish until we finally decide to release. The nice thing about doing lots of playtesting early is that less time will be spent now reworking things, because all the basic systems are known to work and be fun!
This is where things get really good.
