Gorge reveal, motion capture, team growing
August 26, 2009

Hey folks,

I wanted to take a moment to let you what's been happening in the world of Natural Selection 2. After a couple years with a skeleton crew, our team is now up to full capacity! Now we've got animators, environment artists, a level designer, a sound guy, a music guy, heck, even a part-time producer! It feels good to be "firing on all cylinders" as Max says.

This week we released the Gorge "reveal"! This showed the concept art, in-game model and some video footage showing him performing some of his trademark moves.

So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive, which we're thrilled about! Especially after our taser idea (http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/news/2009/7/knife_pistol_taser)...

For any of you that are working on your own games or have an interest in the methodology behind game development, we posted a short guide to motion-capture. One of our animators, Colin Knueppel, was giving us some tips before we motion-capture the NS2 marine and we thought it was so helpful that we'd make it into a blog post:

We've also started posting images of some of our environment props. Cory wrote up a blog entry discussing and showing some of these a few weeks ago:

The next milestone for us is the content tools release, which we will release to everyone that pre-ordered NS2 (http://www.naturalselection2.com/buy). We're making great progress and can't wait to have you guys start making levels. We'll keep you posted.

Thanks for sticking around, we owe you!
