I don't know if it's a bug or not, but I think it's pretty unintended:

In a hectic fight last night I constantly ran over an empty HMG and made me throw my LMG away. In a matter of moments I was wasted..

Please remove auto-pickup of empty weapons

This is 100% a design decision, not a bug. I'm sure that if you looked at the I&S Forum you would see this discussed there.
