Full Version: How do you ban someone after they have left?
Unknown Worlds Forums > Natural Selection > Natural Selection Discussion > General Server Discussion
GreyFlcn
Two speed hackers on my server.
Sucked ###### since we had a good 5v5 going, then they cleared the server.

Edited out steamIDs. -Scythe

I know it's supposed to go into the banned.cfg file
But what's it supposed to look like when it gets there?
Depot
Your banned.cfg would contain a line such as this, "banid 0.0 STEAM_0:0:1234567" to perma-ban the player.

Ensure you have "exec banned.cfg" at the bottom of your server.cfg.
GreyFlcn
Done and done.

These guys knifed down a hive in about 5 seconds confused-fix.gif

Second question
Is there anywhere I can get my hands on a good ban list from other server operators?

Or anything I can do to detect cheaters short of requiring Cheating Death on the server?
GreyFlcn
Well, found one of those guys on a big fat ban list.

Added it to my own.

If you want something that can detect hacks, then you should take a look at this AMXX hack detector.
It detects a lot of hacks, but not everyone!

Gah, crap. I had a program around here that used a global ID system, which you could share. I'll edit if I can find it.
I'll also upload my globalID banlist if I can find it...

Something like HLSS, or HLS -something. Can't remember just yet, my memory is crap sad-fix.gif

*Edit1*
Found the wonid database file, just need to remember the program name sad-fix.gif

motherf***er.
just found it. I knew it was HLS-something.

Download that, set your server up in the program, and there's an admin section, where you can put in things like the rcon password (as long as you know it, seeing as you've got access to banned.cfg, then you probably have). You can see all the text on the server, all the chats, and all the kills and everything. You might need a plugin to be able to chat with the players on the server, but it's basically an external rcon program. Works like a charm.
Basically, the program is a game browser, but has an area for admin stuff. Send me a PM with your email address on it, and I'll see if I can email you a copy of the database smile-fix.gif

And just as a final note HLSW Wiki.
Might come in handy wink-fix.gif

Banned wrongfully by that once, true story. Apparently setinfo s5 = emu meant I had an aimbot.

Yeah read through it.
Seems kinda stupid.

But hell, so far I got my 500Kb ban list tounge.gif
Depot
Remember, master banlists often are manipulated to blackball innocent players.

Are you willing to ban a player just because a 12 year old admin got ###### off when the guy owned him?
Lt_Patch
I just read the banlist that I've got, and it's mainly for CS, but there are a hell of a lot of NS players in there as well.

All the HLSW one does is stop the players on the blacklist joining, and provide a warning when a cautioned player joins. But yeah, global list are bad, for the reasons Depot said. Some 12 year old punk (who should never have been adminned in the first place), decides to ban you for being better than them, then you're screwed...

Well I grabbed my lists from a gaming league, and from an italian forum which contained the cheater I mentioned.

The game league ones are either annotated with names, or with the specifics of what hack type(s) was used.

Could also try www.steambans.com
SEK2000Blackhawk
For this things, i love communitys that share a SQL based ban list. Not too big, not too small.

amx_clexec anyone? :-/

I play on a CS server that uses steambans, so far no problems. It seems to be legit, but I haven't looked into it much. Personally I'm not a fan of the whole shared ban thing due to the reason above; ###### 12 year olds. It'd be nice if the sites could couple ban posts with the names.

Just been looking over the Steam Bans website, and all their policies.
Pretty tight ship they've got there now.
Someone submits a video, with the right command egrained in it, and it gets passed to them.
3 senior admins look at the demo, and either give a ban/no ban vote
When it gets 3 clear votes either way, they then pass it up to management, who looks over the debate, makes any further points, finalises the voting, and adds the steam ID to the database.

Apparently their waiting list is around 4000 demos though =\

Once I got banned for binding "+hook" belonging to the funserver plugin which enables gorges to shoot hooks and travel faster.

That plugin is a joke, it just looks for certain binds and settings which could mean anything like the statement above. Yet another great plugin idea.

pigeon anyone?
