Just a note for those interested in using this in ANSL, since I've been asked about it several times already: This pack is perfectly legal for ANSL match play, as it doesn't attempt to alter anything covered by consistency.

Thumbs up on the work fana and co.

Mind if I mirror this on HL2Files.com?

sorry, but it looks stupid, like a alpha of ns...but much bader

I thought you weren't going to post in this thread again biggrin-fix.gif
Lt_Patch
He wasn't. And his reaction to someone saying that it looked stupid just goes to prove my opinion of the competitive scene. Packs like this are common in Quake 3, due to a lack of tweakable options. NS has options aplenty, turn down the eye candy, and you get something akin to looking at Q3 in "pro player" mode. Which is not pretty to say the least..

Use at the peril of your own enjoyment...
fanatic
CCC: puzl cleaned up the thread, hence I didn't need to start a new one hence I started posting in this one. Intelligence and logic isn't your strong side is it?

Patch: I've stated time and time again that this pack isn't for people who care about their NS looking good. I'm starting to worry about the literacy rate on this forum. You know what I'm going to do for you? Just for you, since I'm such a nice guy? I'm going to add some color to the first post so maybe the next idiot who comes in here posting ish like you might see it or choose not to ignore it. Miracles do happen, they say...

3.2 final edition of the pack is in the works, this time with a separate installer version.

I'm guessing the negative feedback you've gotten in this thread is because of your attitude rather than the mod itself.

Quoted for truth. I don't care what purpose it serves, as long as it isn't breaking consistancy and isn't intended to provide any kind of exceptional advantage, post away. But don't get an attitude when people comment on your work. Honestly I don't know what you expected; it does look horrible, even if it serves some other purpose you should've been fully expecting someone to say so. We here in the customization forum have a long, proud history of good humor and constructive criticism, and don't need your smart attitude. If some idiot makes a stupid comment or hasn't read your post, ignore it like everyone else does. Doing otherwise is just poking the trolls we happily ignore.

question :

does this pack work with the new version ?
i tried my old modifications ,only to see they didnt work.

A quick question: I don't really care if people decide to use this on pub servers to give them an advantage, but in matches are all players not required to be using the default crosshair sets, models, sounds and assets in general? Otherwise, what a farce it is.
fanatic
mp_consistency is 1 in all matches and practices. Anything that isn't affected by consistency is allowed.

A farce? confused-fix.gif As usual you make comments that only show your ignorance about everything related to competitive gaming.

That said, I can certainly see the problematic "fine line" issues. Especially the late addition of silent reload and weapon draw sounds is teetering on the edge and if leagues deem it illegal I see no problems with just removing them from the pack. Personally I don't think it's over the edge.

Check your English dictionary, fana, "otherwise" means "if that is not the case". Now I just wanna know how much of this pack would be null if mp_consistency was set to 1.
fanatic
Everything in the pack works with consistency 1. I assumed you already knew. I assumed you would've read the readme.txt before asking questions. Now do you mind not wasting my time with this pointless banter?

sweet , thanks for the work wink-fix.gif

is there an option menu again to choose what to use/install ?
i dont play ns much at the moment, so i wont come to try it out immediately

You assumed wrong. If I'm asking about the nature of what it contains I obviously haven't downloaded it yet, have I?

Anyway, if all of that can pass a consistency check then it IS a farce in my opinion. You've basically got barebones HUDs, custom crosshairs, semi-transparent sprites, removed sounds. I fully expect you to try to debate my opinion as being incorrect (when opinions are neither right nor wrong) but regardless I'm not gonna say anymore since this is a [rel] thread.

It's a .rar, no installer.

I like this pack but im not sure about the idea of removing the reload sounds for marines. As a skulk I sometimes hear marines reloading their weapons while hiding in a corner which gives away their position as nearby. If this were removed then I would never hear them sad-fix.gif
fanatic
The only place you can hear the reload sound when you're not reloading yourself is in marine start (which is not related to there actually being marines there, the reload sound just plays at random intervals) and that's only because of a bug.

Thx fana again for the greatness of this pack smile-fix.gif.
Sarisel
for your autoexec.cfg,

1. aliasing should be done AFTER setting a variable, not before (with texgamma, lightgamma)
2. texgamma and lightgamma have ranges of 1 - 10, setting them at zero is pointless

that is all
fanatic
Not sure why I put that in the autoexec actually. I just copy pasted all the stuff from the old knife pack autoexec in addition to my own stuff in case it did something good. As far as I know lightgamma and texgamma don't make a difference anymore.
Drfuzzy
I been using it, its pretty nice. The hive build % is a bit messed up though. You should add some motion tracking/hive sight sprites since their really big and often get in the way, i jump around a corner and all i see is sprites D:
Admirable
It's not a hive build percent.
It's a simple timer which updates every 36 seconds due to the limitations of the sprite file.

It is however pretty fugly.
I made it primarily as a proof of concept.
JetJaguar has actually made a much cleaner, nicer one which I personally use.

Fana doesn't play NS anymore so he's a bit out of the loop? tounge.gif

He also has a big melonhead.
fanatic
I thought I replaced your old one with JJ's cleaner one ages ago? Unless he made another one that's better or I stuffed up, that is.

The Motion Tracking / Alien sprites thing is a good idea, but unfortunately I just don't have the motivation to do any sprite work for NS at the moment. If somebody else decides to do the "legwork" I'll be sure to update the pack though!

It's true I don't play NS anymore (and haven't in 3 months+), but honestly, there isn't much to "be out of the loop" of anymore. :/
Admirable
I haven't actually checked out this new version but I the screenshot on the nL page was of the ugly hiveinfo.spr D:

I'd make them myself, but my new windows load has yet to half all my development tools D:

That's just me being lazy and not updating the screenshots. :\

The hiveinfo.spr that's in the pack now, is the one with just the colored squares instead of "Hive OK" and shizzle.
Tykjen
Hm, since when did reload sound become useless? Imo, its quite nice to hear the reload sound when being Karaa*. Not complaining in any way tho. Ill take bits and pieces of this pack.

*nevermind, finally read the entire thread =)

Nice work all together

Uh-oh

nineLegends.com is down
fanatic
Apparently some idiot thinks it's funny to download spam nineLegends.com (like 200gb+ in a few hours) until it gets shut down for bandwidth abuse. It'll be back up at around 2am gmt. This is going to happen at least once more until I get the stats I need to IP ban the ######tard, or implement some other way to stop the retardofestivitas.

If anyone reading this has any other ideas on how to fix the problem, do speak up.

I can write you a PHP script that limits the downloads per IP, the only problem is that if many people within one network (school, business, etc.) try to download the pack at once it won't let them because they all show the same IP. Also, a proxy would get around that too.

Another option is to put a timer before downloading the file, which is also really annoying.

Why don't you use a filesharing service like filefront?

[EDIT]

According to tekproxy, what that person did is illegal. You should get server logs and call/email their ISP. They can lose their account for it.

That is, if you want to take aggressive action against this person.
tekproxy
I had a friend who was bothered by someone like this online so he e-mailed the ISP he doesn't exactly know what happened, but the person who did it was not seen online again for a long time (and he was always on before that).

It may not be "illegal" as in police, trial, court, etc... But it does violate the terms of service agreement for almost every ISP I can think of. Hopefully it's a big, fat ISP that doesn't care about its users (most ISPs fall under this category) and they will cancel their account. If you don't mind, I would like to see the web logs to determine the ISP.

The ISP-ban route may not work, but I've seen it work a few times so it's worth a shot. Also, what beta suggests with IP limiting is good if you want to host the file yourself. The chances of 5-10+ people at a single network downloading the hack pack at once are very tiny, unless it's a huge NS LAN party........ wink-fix.gif

If it doesn't matter where it's hosted, definitely check out filefront. I was scared of it at first because I'm scared of big, giant file hosting websites because they are full of crap, but this one was nice. It was easy to make an account and host files and they only e-mail me every few weeks that they're going to delete one of my movies (WiggleHax) because no one watches or downloads it ever.

Oh and to whomever thinks it is "LAWLs" to "hack the Gibson" and "work your way around the back door" in order to take down the hackpack:

In 5 or 6 years, when you start to shave and you grow big boy hair, just remember that at one time you were a total immature prick to all those Internet people, and Karma is a stat point. One you use to increase your attributes. And you don't have any. You will try and laugh it away when you're alone and your mind wanders. You'll tell it to your friends as a joke and they may laugh--which will only hide the pain for a moment.WHAT I SAY DOES NOT HAVE TO MAKE SENSE.

In that case, they can always share the file too. THE POWER OF LAN!
