I've been playing NS since v1.2 and completely dropped off when 2.0 came out. Not only had my cable been disconnected, but the game I came to love had changed too much. Anyways, I was wondering if there were any dedicated servers for this version of the game. I can't just log the game on with that version and check because of the release of STEAM. You see I was one of the people who opted to download HL instead of buying it. Anyway, I own HL2 now. However, I am still reluctant to purchase a six year old game if the hope of ever playing it the way I truely love cannot come to pass.

I know of no such thing as a 1.02 steam installer. However, there is the Bry 1.04 installer, good luck finding a dedicated server for it though.

hl costs like $10 and youre gonna need it to play 1.04 on steam. i also suggest you at least try the newest version of ns

but 1.04 was simply the best version of ns evar lol.
When I get my amd64 boxen up and running, when I buy a powersupply for it I'll prolly host one myself. I have a very solid connection that has ran a 20man NS server in the past with no lagging or spiking whatsoever D:

I have a copy of bry's 1.04 server and have had it running off an on. (currently I have a 3.2b server running instead) I really love the gameplay of 1.04 better then that of the current ns. But then again, I really like the bug fixes and updates that have been done.

If i had my way, i would have a 3.2x server running with the gamplay rules of 1.04. (ie, 1 gorge per hive system, locked fade/onos to 2/3rd hives, MORE BUILDINGS!!!!!!!!, NO CO. I miss the 3-4 hr games that NS use to be.

I'm pretty sure there are a couple of plugins out there for 1.04-ish features. They might not work on 3.2 though. I know theres a couple of german servers out there using a plugin that removes R4K and changes the gorge res flow. Install that and all you'll need is a res-limiting plugin (1.04 had individual player res limits based on hive numbers IIRC), a re-chaining plugin, a plugin that shuffles the abilities back to their original places, lerk spikes... and a bunch of other stuff.

Learn to let go, of 1.04 and eventually NS. It is possible.
