Yeah they are, and it's great in junction with a specularity map added, because it gives a feeling of depth on the weapons. Grizzly, that's not a horrible normal map, but it's too powerful. if they kicked it down a few notches it'd be fine.

Yes they're worth bothering with, but it's not even really a bother, throw the texture into photoshop, and apply NVidia's normal map filter, and viola.
