From my limited experience I have concluded that if aliens let the marines have the upper hand in the first part of the game the aliens are usually screwed. I have yet to play a game where the aliens made a remarkable comeback. For this reason I think that MT should be the first thing a comm should get cause that way skulks lose their only advantage over the marines and any marine team that can aim should be able to take control of the game.
Only problem I see with this is that the marines may not be prepared well enough for fades by the time they show up, but im sure a good comm can overcome this.
thoughts?

No comm can overcome the pub 4/5 minute fade. At clan level it's even sooner. MT will not really help. You sacrifice time, upgrades, and res nodes. If you're really going to rush MT (ip, armoury, obs, build, research asap,) you'll have didly left for your 3 rts.
You won't get MT for a good 3 minutes, and by that time skulks will have silence. (As MC is the current favourite.) MT is as good as countered, and what little advantage it may have offered is negated by the disadvantage posed by your punny level 0 weapons.
MT rush used to own. Now it's not a good idea imho.

Scilence gets rocked by MT. MT rushes on pubs works wonders, because most of the time rines there don't have the reaction time to use the extra hit a1 will give them, the aim to benifit from w1, or the intelligence to check common hiding spots. MT will at least fix that last one, and help significantly.

Sorry for the nub question but how does silence counter MT?
surprise

Mt counters silence.
Mt is good if you can use it to effectively get/secure fast nodes while preventing the aliens from having map control.

MT works best in pubs, for clan matches it's not that great an early advantage.

problem is as posted before "you are able to own the skulks...but the fades will rape you"
what could work is a MT first then asap damage1+2 combo...not sure about it though

if you really want to rush mt I advise building a second obs and usings its scanner sweep instead, this way you wont be behind on your tech but still gain almost full benefits of mt.

How many scans can you do in 1 minute (constantly) without running out of energy if you have 2 Observatories?

erm 2 obs + Mt aint really gonna be much use against a fade......
inmo tech up armor 1 then just go fast up weapons tech as fast as possible

he wasnt talkign about mt+2observatories mate...
He was talkign about only 2 Observatories!
No MT research.
And then a lot of scans, giving Marines the possiblitie to know exactly whats in the room they are going to enter (just as MT) if he scans (and if they are able to look at their minimap/map)
Which could work out quiet good...the question is...
How long is the break (seconds) inbetween the scans if you keep scanning constantly with 2 observatories?

With two obs? I'd guess you can scan once at least every 20 seconds without running out of energy.

I tested it (with sv_cheats 1)
With 2 Observatories you can do a Scan every 5 Seconds without running out of Energy
question: does sv_cheats 1 change the rate the energy refreshs?

a scan lasts for 10 seconds Im not sure how fast they recharge but with 2 of em you get a fair bit of wear out of the energy.

I find that Armor/Weapons upgrades heavily outweitgh the ability to see where your enemy is - use some stereo headphones and you have built-in motion!
