I suggest that there be some kind of indicator above someone's head whenever they press a certain key. This would be similar to the in-game voice communication icon. I can see it being used for a number of reasons:

- "weld me". While I'm sure the Developers have heard about the "weld me" suggestion for radio commands on the popupmenu, I think this would be much simpler to do (I'm not sure if the voice actors are still active or working on NS). So, one can simply make some kind of script: "impulse n; say_team weld me!". Currently I have resorted to flashing my flashlight a million times, and some people still don't notice that.

- Ventrilo. It's not that uncommon for a group of players to use this on a public server. Sometimes a person's teammates' voices sound fairly similar, so one could bind their ventrilo key and their "indicator" key to the same button, to make it easier.

This indicator would only be visible to your own team (of course), and wouldn't be extremely nice-looking. I was thinking a simple triangle or arrow pointing downward would be fine. I don't think it would be out-of-place in terms of NS, because the voice comm icon already exists and looks much uglier.

At the moment, I can't think of anything else this icon would be used for, feel free to add your own ideas.

Like a warning from Sven Coop? Well, I suppose it could be used to just attract the attention of players around you, but that wouldn't do anything because you could just flash your flashlight a lot...

I was thinking this would be a more professional way of doing that, yes. I haven't played Sven Coop as much to know what the "warning" is. What I had in mind was something the voice comm icon that's already in the game.

Theoretically the indicator could even be a custom image like a sig image... Might not be nessicary though. I like this idea for the RTS aspect it it facilitates either way, it's kind of hard to comunicate sometimes when all your players look the same and have no method of highlighting themselfs to any player asside from the comm.

this idea is kind of cool!

I know skulks are around the corner waiting for us...so i just give the guy behind me a short flicker...and hes aware there are enemies too...

/me likes!
and the ventrilo thingy...yes sounds good too.

Why not?

weld me icon idea is already in 3.1

ok the ventrilo idea. so basically what it is is a button when pressed creates an indicator icon above your head? much like the current voicecomm except instead of the mic being activated only the icon above your head appears? is that it?

flashing the light a zillion times is doing nothing - except **** your neighbour off *lol*

why not tie it into the cries for help under the secondary fire menue thingy so like when you scream medpack or whatever a med/welder symbol appears over you heard

That would be a good idea. Every time you use a radio command, then this would appear over your head.
