Full Version: How Do You Disable 32 Bit Graphics?

Hey guys it asked me when I installed NS if I wanted 32 bit graphics. However, when I am commander the slowdown is horrendous and wanted to try to turn it off. Anyone know how to do this? Also I have a decent machine, 1.3g Athlon 512 DDR and a GeForce4 Ti4400. Any thoughts as to why it would be so slow even with 32bit on?

Thanks,
Jah

32 bits per pixel is a heavy load for some setups, especially given all the transparencies in NS. There is no way that I know of to switch your bit depth in the middle of a game, but you can disable the 32 bit mode by removing the "-32 bpp" switch from your shortcut.

If anyone has any idea why his (much higher in RAM and video card spec's) rig gets so much worse described performance than my machines, I'd be interested in hearing it. I'm sure General_Jah would too. Just as reference, mine is only a 1.5ghz P4, 128 megs ddr, and a geforce2 mx400. I have no problems at all, and I DO run in 32 bits.

Wow, there is definitely something wrong with your card or its drivers or its config, Gerneral_Jah. I have a GeForce 4Ti 4200 (128MB) and I can run NS at 1600x1200 at 32-bit color and get 100FPS (which is the HL engine-capped limit - it would be even faster).

Tell us more about your Detonator driver versions, your card's software config, your refresh rates, your OS, etc.

My advice: Try updating your video card/sound card drivers, as well as
your mouse driver (I know it sounds funny, there's a type of logitech
optical mouse that can cause slowdowns and crashes in max payne without
a software update).

Also, I believe there's a problem with an MSI board causing
slowdowns/crashes, in some programs. Check out your MOBO's
webpage for updates, especially should you have an onboard sound
card.

A Ti4400 should run this like a teen can run a sexual fantasy in their
sleep. Bad analogy, but never the less.

DirectX sometimes causes this too, if you have 8.1, try doing a reinstall.

Er, it isn't just a bad analogy because it is innapropriate, but also because it doesn't make sense.

And if your 3d card is running like that, before you go and uninstall all your drivers, get rid of any tweakers or actual beta drivers for the card itself.
