Did search under gestating, gestation and egging and didn't find anything similar to the idea I have. Closest being this:
http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index....showtopic=88909I think that while your molecules are re-arranging, you should be able to select abilities while gestating. So, you can still upgrade without having to gestate over and over again.
It looks and sounds silly when an onos pops out of it's egg (scary sound) and then again after one ability (uhm... okay) and another ability (it doesn't sound scary anymore).
This will save some time when playing in a rushing situation, and it'll just look better overall.
As an option for tourney modes or whatever, you could force upgrade selection only during this time. If they don't want it, just have an additional button for select nothing.
Takes?

Uh.. so would upgrade time be factored into gestation time?
I doubt it's a big issue, but the slight time penalty of upgrading may or may not influence balance.
On second though, it probably doesn't, really. Just trying different angles.
I don't see why this shouldn't go in. It'd be a lot more convenient for all involved...

Maybe just add it to fade and onos gestation?

it would be nice to have say a "buy menu" type thing where you select
your lifeform, and then your abilities. then you hit the "go" button and it all happens at the same time.
the trade off being that you spend more time as a defenceless egg for about 10-20 seconds longer.
would be alright i guess, but its not really necessasry.
personally ive always wanted eggs, to be able to roll at a walking pace, so that it would be more interesting lol

Uhhh, only way I could see this working is if you added the time to your total gestation...
The point about selecting upgrades is you are making a decision on upgrade vs. time it takes to get the upgrade...
But I think the flexibility this gives is a nice touch...

I would incorporate this menu into the egg process, because it will relieve you of some hassle. To adjust for the timing issue Zunni pointed out, here is how it'd work.
| CODE |
Gestation=30 seconds for x lifeform (or however long it takes) Start gestation Start upgrade menu Per upgrade=+2 seconds to gestation
If in menu at end of gestation period, wait for user x seconds before hatch If user selects additional upgrade(s), add time to gestation Timeout after 15 seconds
|
If the user pops out without an upgrade or a new one comes along that they can hook on to their lifeform, then it is normal gestation.
The reason I would like to see it added into the egging process instead of beforehand is because the game will be balanced and the same as before for gestation time, but you are still saving time for selecting while inside the egg.
New thoughts?
