Better than I could do (by far!), but still a bit bald

Good to see that so many people want to give it a try

I hope the maps are OK, I kinda rushed them :/

Its a nice metal and good for a first, let me show you some tips:
Use the dodge tool sparingly around the edges of the model, makes it look like its been worn around the edges a bit. After your done, use the contrast adjustment to make the skin show out better so its not so washed out and you can see the edges. Use the burn tool on the end of the barrel and go back with the dodge tool and keep switching them back and forth till you get a nice burn at the end of the barrel, adds even more to the worn look of the skin. Lighting is important too, any grooves in the metal, you might want to go back with the burn tool and lightly go over the edge where the light would cast over it to make it look like theres a slight shadown on it.
Some screws and bolts would look neat too, theres a tutorial
here that will show you how to do that. If you did that, you could be a really good skinner with practice

*edit* Also try to download some grunge brushes, they usually come with scratches made and they look alot better than the circle brush

The refrence looks like it has a light blue hue to it on the picture ;D

Hm, perhaps change the colour of the "bags" where the barrels connect to the main body (so it doesn't look too metallic) and skin on some stuff on the sides of the main body so it doesn't look too bald
axman
Apr 17 2005, 11:51 PM
hahah im gonna sound retarded but what is the bag like whats it do and stuff lol im not to good with guns and stuff
Obst
Apr 18 2005, 10:33 AM
I don't know the perfect word for it in terms of guns neither, so I thought of what it looked like the most: a bag ^^. Sorry for the confussion, my fault.
Anyway:
axman
Apr 19 2005, 12:34 AM
umm still wasnt sure what the bags were so i made them into um idk WTH i did but anyway... the stuff on the body i added sum pipes or electric or something idk what it is either and i added like lines or whatever grooves i guess... i tryed the latter the bottom looked cool but due to the skin map it would widen half of the top one and make it look bad well anyway what i jsut said prolly makes no sense so here look what needs to be done?
/EDIT: yeah idk if these renders r to big for u n stuff but they take up like 2/3rds of my screen and i run res at 1600x1200 on a 17 inch monitor..... i need a bigger one... sumone buy me a new one now!!!!!
Obst
Apr 19 2005, 10:35 AM
Way better

Gimme ^^
btw the renders are FAR too big, cut them down to 75% or even 50% perhaps :/

...
those "bags" cover the holes in which the turret guns move up and down, thus preventing corrosive SALT WATER from entering- they are rubbery and very thick, resiliant, and can last for many years before needing replaced
c'mon... you should know that...
Obst
Apr 26 2005, 04:44 PM
I know what the "bags" are for, but not the precise term for it. I guess "bag" ain't the official term for it....

Lt_Gravity
Apr 28 2005, 06:25 AM

hot. and I mean it.
I guess to use it as siege might look completely wrong. maybe using this turret on a starship map would make more sense. AAAAAaahhhh guys stop giving me ideas, I dont have time to do all those maps I have in my mind

Oui pls and thank you or wait did u want me to reskin my part i got confused lol..... what part do u want reskined or osmething sorry lol im bad lol
Obst
Apr 29 2005, 02:09 AM
I want the ["old siege base"; The thingy I transferred from the default siege] reskinned, and as long as this is the part you want remapped we talk about the same thind =D
I'll see what I can do, spare time is rare here, but a skinmap should be easier to do than a whole model, so I might do it soon.

One problem- the barrels "recoil" into the gun right?
Well.. they'd "recoil" and smack the backing 0o'
