So after checking this out on a server you do not loose your upgrades till you finish evolving, so recently I've kicked into the habbit (if I'm doing a straight spawn - evolution) to take Celerity and Regen.
Celerity I think speeds up evolutions slightly and regen for the extra protection from attack, again only a slight booast, cara doesn't work on eggs as far as I am aware.
So do you think this will happen accross the board in NS games? evolve upgrades for extra protection before evolving into that all important lifeform? especially in clan matches?
Or is the time spent evolving wasted when you could be running to a hiding spot or climbing up to sit ontop of the hive?

Celerity doesn't speed it up at all. Regeneration is good, but you should be egging in a safe location, in the first place. The time it takes to get regeneration just keeps you vulnerable and out of combat for longer.

Silence is the only upgrade I sometimes get, to evolve in hmm ... silence.

Cloaking is the only useful sensory upgrade, silence is the only useful movement upgrade (for gestating). Regen and redemption are both useful, and I think in most cases redemption would be better, since the time the marine spends looking for you in the hive room after you redeem is more likely to save you than the additional health from regen.

You can't always evolve on the hive, and you can't go onos in a vent.

just crawl to the top of the hive as a skulk, then go onos.

Doesn't always work as sometimes the hive top is connected to the ceiling. I usually egg on the RT, in these cases.

in 3.0 hives are no longer 93.7 percent safe to egg on. it seems now the hitboxes are fixed because you can actually pistol eggs on top of the hive.
its funny when fades think its safe on top of hives.

It was funny as hell the first time my reg server experienced a redemption egg. We had alltalk on and they were like "WTH?! Where'd he go?!" Then I pop-up as an onos and ate him.
Redemption + Silence + Cloak = A damn safe egg

The only thing about redempt is that you need to at least have 4 seconds of low health to garuntee you actually redempt (Not so easy with a Shotgunner in your face)... I would still be tempted to take regen... Especially if I'm near the hive with its healing as well. (even better with DCs but I'm just getting into an ideal situation)

You have a 45% chance of redeeming for every second that you are below 40% health. (This means that you have a 30.25% chance of not being redeemed at all during the first two seconds of low health.) If you are being shot with an lmg, your chances of redeeming are pretty good (especially since you are at really low health right as they have to reload (at level 0 weapons, or at level 1 weapons and hive healing)), and your chances of surviving with regen are pretty good (as long as you aren't going fade or onos, in which case you will die with regen). If they decide to knife you, then you are practically guaranteed to redeem. If they have a shotgun or hmg, you are probably dead either way, though redemption gives you a small chance of surviving.

Cloak and egg=can't see,if you havn't cloak or havn't sc,find a safe place is the best idea.

An egg has 500 effective hp though. So you're going to need 3 marines to pistol an egg on top of the hive simultaneously to kill it.
Fades taking a breather however, or anything else, are fair game

I highly disagree. Focus is great on fades and onos, they can kill marines in one hit. And I find it easier to be sneaky with scent of fear than with cloaking. As an alien, you're invisible if marines aren't looking at you. With scent of fear, you ALWAYS know where they are, and thus can have a pretty good idea where they're looking.

Read the thread before responding, please. I was referring to upgrades that you could have while gestating. An egg doesn't benefit from focus.
