one thing that is interesting about NS is that all the aliens make the same chuckle noises. this can be usefull when trying to scare marines. if a marine hears a chuckle and a fade pops out and kills him... next time a he hears a chuckle, he might think its a fade... even if its only a gorge or skulk... its not much of a tactical edge but it can have a little but usefull effect on your openent.

other fun ways to mess with marine noises is to sit in a vent using healthspray on nothing... I'm not lying I've gotten commanders to just assume I had things in there and they set up a siege outside the vent... its a waste of the marines time and res and they gain nothing, not to mention its as funny as heck

try some of theese out, sound is one of the most vital of the 5 senses (and in games you usually only use 2) so it's about half the battle right there in on-line gaming

Infact, I think the alien chuckle is a taunt. But your theory is correct aswell. But usually when a gorge hears a marine it starts running.
AvengerX
thats true... sometimes you can spit kill lone marines if you get the jump on them

Interesting... but chuckling is mostly used for taunting, as I see it.
However, healing random things in a vent might work! Maybe a GL might be brought in... I should try this.

back when cri was still good, I remember they would always try to lure the marines over by biting on walls and stuff to confuse them via sound. Then one skulk would come around the corner from behind and kill them whlie the marines were trying to figure out where the others were.

yep, biting is actually pretty loud - louder than chuckling anyway. having a skulk biting nothingness in a nearby vent can serve to be a silence upgrade for other nearby skulks creeping up behind.

If your team gets sens chamber as one of the first ones, you can cloak and chill on walls or ceilings and chuckle. The enemy can't see you, but knows you're there. As long as they don't ask the commander for for a scan of the area, you can keep on chuckling to freak them out. I've had marines firing randomly in all directions (just missing me I might add) and running all over to find me. Here's where you can capitalise on the chuckle: when marines go running around solo to find you, you can kill those that run past you, generally with little to no danger for yourself. Works like a charm. Even better, once they realize that chuckle means death, they freak out even more, which makes them that much easier to kill.

actually with only just decent headphones, if you can see the marine and you chuckle while you are cloaked the marine will almost certainly be able to figure out where u are.

Used that tactic the other day. Three skulks in Cargo by the node (ns_nothing) and a few Marines over in ventilation.. one of the skulks tells us to start biting the walls, so we do, chuckling as we go, and he sneaks around behind them (the LOOONG way) and took 'em all out because they couldn't hear him over us.

Another good thing to do is have a cloaked Onos (preferrably with Silence) do the chuckling. A Gorge runs out, chuckles at the Heavy, then goes around the corner. Heavy follows, hears more chuckling, thinks, "Heh, stupid Gorge didn't run away.. free kil- *DEVOURED*"

That must have been one hell of a stupid commander. If a gorge is healing something then I pressume and assume that we are talking about structures here. But when do you use heal as a gorge?
1) A gorge heals when a structure is under attack or has been under attack or when his teammates are injured. Now tell me how can marines attack something in the vent (assuming they have no jp), which ISN'T there? It just doesn't make sense (or perhaps I'm to smart). So: first I would scan to see what is in there. If it's a gorge making a love shack, I would let him do as he is losing time for his team. And putting up a siege spot is losing (precious) time for your team.
2) Let's pressume they have jp's. Well I have scanned remember tounge.gif .
Assuming that there is actually some stuff build in there, I still would focus on the more important aspects of the game, meaning: capping ress and destroying the hives. It's (probably) not worth the effort. It can be worth the effort if you are trying to make them lose precious chambers (so that they cannot upgrade anymore). But then the better option would be to give a jp and a grenade launcher to one of your marines, cheaper and much faster.

Just my thoughts on that matter.
