KeksImperium
the idea is to put an injured marine under pressure
right now it makes no difference if you have full health or just 1 point.

it could work like this:
5 seconds after your health drop below 25 (or whenever it goes red) you can hear your wild thumping heartbeat, reminding you that your nearly dead!
(5 secs to ensure you hear the heartbeat only if you survive wink-fix.gif )
this would add a lot of atmosphere aka putting the fear back into NS

maybe this could work for the aliens too, but with a differnt sound wink-fix.gif

this idea is originaly from sithlord1234 wink-fix.gif

Marines yes but not too loud and let's make it like 10% health or something instead of 25%. Aliens could simply be a heavy, strained breathing sound.

This idea is necessary to include:

Marines or aliens who are below 10% to start to bleed to death, it'd be a slow growing exponential but it's enough that would wouldn't be able to go across the map with 5 hp like you can now. That's just silly. There are no zombies in NS. Marines don't run when they don't have legs, skulks don't go very far when they don't have heads. Locational damage is a must. Bleed off DoT is a must.

As much as I love this idea, save it for when we get a better engine and can do it right.

I hate x5's "bleeding" idea. I hate dying over time, just because you were the victorious guy in a battle.

But I would love the heartbeat. And making it start after 5 seconds is a nice way to prevent surrealism...

big - for x5

i hate bleeding too!
I d love heartbeat too!

Ringing ears... heartbeat.

Could be cool, and add atmosphere, but it might make the game too scary.

We need to get Renegade or someone who's been shot in here so we can ask them if you really hear a heartbeat when you're wounded.

Also, I hate the bleeding idea. Though in most cases I support realism in sci-fi games, this would simply screw NS up in more ways than I care to list, all of them gameplay oriented. Locational damage maybe, though it would be a **** to balance.

i dont think hearing a heart beat would be a good idea because you would not be able to hear incoming aliens. If u havent heard the heart beat in cs you should know that it gets real anoying fast!

theres a heartbeat in cs?
damn its soooo long ago since i played it biggrin-fix.gif

anyway, the very reasons you name, are the reasons to implement!
it would give you the "damn, im half dead. must heal. quick!" feeling, putting the player under stress wink-fix.gif (the fear thing again)

also the volume is just a question of playtesting wink-fix.gif

How about an adrenaline boost when your health drops below 25%, you do bleed to death, but slowly and over time, so after a firefight, you have increased speed, but the more you move, the worse you get. Just to get you out of a tight situation, to a secure position and call for a medpack to stop bleeding.

Maybe the adrenaline comes from a nueral nanolink that gives the marine a boost to help him when hes down, just long enough to survive that attack, but he really needs medical attention ASAP.

I like the Idea of bleeding because it cuts out Rambo type play where a guy with 5 hp can still run, jump and kill with no accuracy penalty, with practically no life left in him. It forces him to ask for assistance, and rely on the commander to know what he is doing. It still allows him to go Rambo, but he can easily be taken down if his comm isnt paying attention, or he is not following orders.

Also, with locational damage, a marines weapon should be less accurate if he is damaged in the arms, and cant move fast when hit inthe legs. Possibly a stamina and sprint system seen in DoD, so a Marine can move quickly and doubletime it if he needs to, but only for a short while, so it forces him to run to cover, then turn and fight. This stamina is reduced when health and locational damage reaches a certain point.

Heartbeats are a good idea, but it could really distract you and weaken your ability to hear things around you, perhaps a health monitor that shows hearbeat and stress levels for the commander, who has a display with his marines, so when a marines health and heartbeat increase (Due to poor health) his icon starts to flash, so a Commander can be aware of when his marines are in trouble and can act quickly.

A commander view of his marines, even just a small Icon of the marine, with numbers to represent his health status just at the top of the screen where the commander can point and click to go to the marine instantly, and a little Medpack symbol next to him, so the comm can drop a medpack right on the marine without having to go and look for him while trying to defend a base, or setup a siege/phasegate base, would cut down on the comms having to be everywhere at once, but this button can only be clicked once every 2 seconds (The nanogrid has to find the marine, if the comm wants to medspam,he has to find the mairne and have him in screen then manually drop medpacks) (This idea is probably VERY unbalancing, maybe no medkit button, just the ability to immediately centre on a marine)

Well, im just about out of ideas. Feel free to rip them to shreds.

Edit: Damn, I thought I was replying in the Webbed Changes to Marine Idea. Umm, there isnt one is there.

NO to losing health over time when you're not under attack (the nanites keep you from getting worse or something)

NO locational damage at all...pretty sure this is in the FAQ

NO to the adrenaline surge, that's what catpacks are for

your other idea (commander view tweak) should probably be posted in its own thread so we can stay on topic in this one (i've done this before too, nobody's perfect tounge.gif )

Edit: Agree with KeksImperium.

it SHOULD distract you!

putting you under stress!

its like not beeing able to save in AVP1
sure this was anoying but any alien scares the hell out of you and you sweat your pants wink-fix.gif

uh an for the CS sound is anoying again...
in CS you have no posibiliy to heal yourself!
in NS there are two (and maybe more soon if i heard right)
Gneralas
Would the aliens be able to hear the marines heartbeat and visa versa?

Very good idea, this would make the game scary!

*thumbs up*
Cheese
hmm aliens dont have hearts? or do they have hearts? I would only add the heartbeat to Marines...

And for the hearing thing...well under nromal circumstances aliens shouldnt be able to hear the Marines heartbeat BUT

with Scent of fear they shoul be able to! that would give Scent of Fear a cool touch. You hear fast Heartbeats around the corner and you know exactly that this Marine is goin doooooooooown! ^^
GrimReaper8
Well I must say that I like the heart beat idea, should definitly make NS more moody.

Also Cheese, maybe instead of hearing the hart beat give them a seperate icon, like the normal one but way, way more drastic. The way that I understand SoF (admitedly this is just from posts I've read) is that the alien evolves some senserry organ that can detect the phermons releast by the fear emotion in humans, it would stand to reason then that someone who is near death would be releasing masive amounts of these phermons. (not shure of the spelling on that but you should be able to get the idea)

Added a new thread ( http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...showtopic=84924 ) to continue this interesting side note. (So as not to clutter this one with a whole lot of off topic ranting)
