Full Version: Low Poly Pre-releases

SnappyCrunch
This is a pre-release thread. The models in here are more or less done, but they're not released. Hence, no zip, no readme, and I don't want anyone to mirror them.

On to the models -

Low Definition Marine Structures Pack [Screenshot][Download]
I took my low poly marine structures pack and reduced all the texture dimensions by a half. That means the textures are now a quarter of the original size, and therefore take up a quarter of the texture memory. The original textures use a combined 14MB of video card memory. These structures use 3.5MB, and therefore offer a theoretical performance improvement to people with 32MB or smaller video cards. When looking at the comparison screenshot above, it's easy to notice a difference, but in game, I was surprised at how it wasn't glaringly obvious, and it didn't hurt to look at.

Low Poly v_mg [Screenshot][Download][783 polys, 47% of 1680]
I worked on sprite-like v_hmg for a while, but man, they're tough, and tedious. So this is the next best thing. It's an LMG view model with an optimized number of backfaces deleted, some small changes to the LMG structure, and I squared off the fingers on the left hand. Those fingers only get seen for about half a second during the reload animation anyway, so I feel comfortable with it.

Low Poly Sentry Turret [Download][Screenshot][61 polys, 10% of 582]
Well, it kinda looks like a sentry... This guy fits a niche for people who can't handle even Ollj's or Arson's sentry (or don't want to). It's not pretty, but it's not too ugly, either. And hell, it's ten for the price of one!

[EDIT] Nov7 - The health, ammo, ammopack, and catalyst were removed due to their release in the low poly world models pack.[/EDIT]
[EDIT] Nov17 - The marine and fade were removed due to their release in the low poly player model pack.[/EDIT]

or something.

Try a low poly alien pack next smile-fix.gif

You have made NS playable for me again... but alas, in less than 2 weeks I'll be abandoning you and going back to my true love... sushi FX...

hehe, I get a new PC in like, 10 days... so while this ROCKS for this low end machine, I'll be whoring my high poly again soon (you took me from an average of 10 fps to a BLAXING 50 again!!!!!!!)
SnappyCrunch
I added some new models. Today's releases are:

Low Poly Marine
Low Poly Fade
frostymoose
The marine is just...yuck... I think you went way too far with that one. The fade looks pretty good, though
PFCNublar
I agree. The marine has lost a bit much. Looks like a stick man sorta.

But I'll still use it anyway smile-fix.gif. You don't notice it in passing.
SnappyCrunch
Just pretend the marines now have low profile powered fullerene armor, and they're malnourished tounge.gif Really, it's tough to take away any polys from the default marine and still have it look good. The default marine is really well optimized. I know the marine is thin, but it's a tradeoff I had to make, and you get used to it really quickly.
SnappyCrunch
Time for a bump. Today's pre-release is the low poly sentry turret. Does it look awesome? No, no it doesn't. Is it low poly? You betcha.
