I know its arranged in a nice pattern but I don't use em enough..
So far I have F1, F2, and F3 so ammo/health/standby requests..
I hit Q + A for an RT and thats it really...
V for recycle and if I am dropping alot of HA sets I use the keys..but otherwise its the mouse..anyone out there use purely keyboard shortcuts for building?

That's what they're there for. Your marines will keep you too busy to do anything if you can't work fast, and for that, you need hotkeys.
Once you learn them, you won't go back (unless you make a more elaborate script...).

Shortcuts only. They increase your productivity by at least 2x if not more.

since I am crap at learning configs other then my own, I hardly use hotkeys.
yet they do come inhandy if you are gona spam something. i am happy to put my finger on the corresponding key in order to medspam, ammospam or catspam.

I use hotkeys almost exclusively.
In fact, the only things I don't use hotkeys for are - cancelling a beacon (so i dont recycle by mistake - trust me its way too easy to risk it) and scanning (i have no idea why i just dont).
I actually got asked today whether my medspam was scripted.
press 'S'
aim
click
press 'S'
aim
click
rinse and repeat until alien is dead

I've been banned for "medpack hacking" and "medpack scripting" before, so that's 100% believable.

I've been banned for some incredibly stupid things before, such as "exploiting an elec rt to defend a pg" that was a classic.
Also I got banned for taking over as com on tanith, beacon shotgun rushing a hive, then beacon shotgun rushing another hive - they both died. This was like 20 minutes in and marines were in a relocated base lockdown situation. Aliens lost most of their RT's and 2 hives within 3 minutes of my joining the game. Dunno how exactly they figured that was bannable.

And thats why I not only have a fave server, but also am admin @ this time.
I aint gona get banned for unique strategies, nor will I ban ppl for it.

I use the default hotkeys for pretty much everything.
except moving through menus at times. it really helps, just key+aim and click, and something happens. =P
if you're moving the mouse up and down all the time... er... yeah, valuable seconds are literally lost through these mouse movements. learn the hotkeys asap to improve your game. =P

I use hotkeys for things I can remember. The only problem I get is dropping arms labs instead of meds...

First time I ever saw it was the fujnniest though. I was specatting a guy fighting with a fade in a vent. He called for a medpack, but the comm dropped and arms by mistake. Splatted on the fade's head and he wasso "WTH?!" (and possibly stuck) that the rine killed him. Much laughing all around. I get really angry at marines who try to BUILD the accidental arms labs though - I mean, why would anyone want an arms on you head, anyway?

Just today i was playing lerki on eclipse. Our rt was under attack on ecli so i flied in spored once danced until the rine ran out of ammo--> comm medspams and rine knifes after few secs two things happens on half a second. comm drops arms lab and i kill the rine ^^

EDIT: Err... I use hotkeys on everything. I cant think anything where i would use mouse. I might take that distress canceling to mouse because it is indeed quite risky.

I use the keys for buildings and ammo/med spam. I use the mouse for upgrades, and that's it. I use f1-5 as alien for rt,oc,dc,mc,sc.

Please dont bind a button to sensory. Many a game has been contaminated by the accidental sc button press. "Oh sorry it was right next to the dc button." doesnt make me feel any better

heh. done that a couple of times. I usually use the mouse for the first chamber so I'm sure I won't get the wrong chamber.

Thats cos you've never dropped 8 OCs followed by 8DCs while bhopping backwards to block bullets from a HMG/JP. Works, too. In fact the rine who was chasing me paused to type "Oh S***!" before running away and asking the comm for about 4 sieges. Sure, it was 160 res to save a 10 res lifeform, but it sure worked. I still had 100 res after all that anyway.

I actually dropped an arms lab in a hive during a cal match the other week. That didn't go over well with my teammates.
I would also drop ip's occasionaly if not for the distance from the cc limit.
the problem occurs when your menu is on one page, and you use hotkeys to drop items on another page. either you miss your first key or your system isn't as fast as your fingers. A good habit to get into is to always switch it back to the 'e' menu after you are on your advanced building tab right after you drop an advanced structure. You don't need to worry about the other ones usually, cause the arms lab is the only one you can usually drop due to restrictions. (to far from an armory , cc)
