Full Version: Get Lmg/pistol From Armory If Missing

I've often thought about this and the other day it was yet again refreshed in my mind. One of my team mates was giving his shotgun to another, and accidently dropped his pistol aswell. His pistol fell in one of those annoying little areas maps have where you can't reach the weapon so he was left without a pistol.

I suggest having the armory give you and LMG and/or pistol for free if you happen to be missing one when you use the armory. Couldn't be too hard to add, and it's little things like this that stack up to make the game better.

edit: you can only get a new one every 30 seconds for reasons discussed below.

No... don't want to see LMG/Pistol spam...
If you are near a armory, ask for a shootgun.
If you want a new pistol... Die ! >:)

That's a good point, it would add to the problem of lamers dropping and grabbing LMGs and making piles of them on the floor. Each LMG is an entity, and each entity adds server lag, and that leads to paaaaaaaaain.

There's always someone in clan scrims who thinks this is hilarious and will keep f4ing and rejoining while dropping his LMG each time in order to build a pile of them in MS. It hasn't been funny in a looooooong time, but people continue to do it...
DragonMech
Then how about LMGs and pistols are not dropped, or vanish after 10-15 seconds? Only their ammo would be left if a marine was killed with them.

A timing for rejoining (like 15s) after F4 can help for this one.

*sigh* This seems to happen all the time around I&S, people say no to an idea simply because they find something that llamas can abuse.

A llama could take a HMG either placed by the comm or off a dead marine and go chuck it in a pit of doom, or one of those annoying areas I mentioned. Does this mean we should remove the ability to drop guns? (even if we did, said llama could just jump in the pit himself). Games can not be llama-proof. never.

Dying to get a pistol is no good either, it gives the aliens res you know.

Not if you type 'kill' in console.
krimson
yeah, so when you have a jp or something, and are in the alien base, and for some wierdo reason, you drop the wrong gun, or its a frantic clenching for a position, and you pick up an empty gun, and switch to a different slot, but drop it before switching back and your pistol is gone, and so now not only do you have an empty weapon 1, no pistol, but you have to /kill in console with a jp?

no thanks.

AlienCow's Successful Weapon Dropping Tutorial
  • Step 1: Move to a flat area of the map. Preferably a wide, open space such as the Marine Spawn.
  • Step 2: Check for "Pits of Doom", or small holes in the ground that a weapon may fall down if carelessly flung.
  • Step 3: Face away from any of these dangerous locations.
  • Step 4: Select the weapon you wish to drop.
  • Step 5: Drop the selected weapon; do NOT accidentally drop another weapon that you wish to keep.
  • Step 6: IF you have foolishly dropped said weapon you wish to keep, walk over it to pick up again. IF it has fallen down a "Pit of Doom" or into a small hole in the ground, ask the Commander for a new weapon, and return to Step 1. If this does not apply, move on to Step 6.
  • Step 6: Congratulate yourself on a successful weapon dropping session.

Mmm. The thing is, just don't drop weapons unless NECESSARY. Preferably only when exchanging said weapon for another, in which case it doesn't matter where the previous weapon went. That way you don't NEED a new LMG/Pistol. It really is your own fault for throwing away a needed weapon.

That's actually a good point I thought about a couple weeks ago. I mean when you're spawning in first wave you don't have a pistol and you have to take it from the armory. Why not making this for the whole game?
A_Boojum_Snark
You people are pathetic.

Yes there are ways someone could abuse this.
Yes you can avoid it happening.
Yes you can get your weapons back in another way.

But not one of you has given a decent reason not to add it which isn't related to the above statments. Those type of statments could most likely be applied to MANY things in the game.

Put yourself in the situtation for a minute, you've lost your pistol (or lmg and your team is tight on res) for who knows whatever reason. Now, would you rather kill yourself, or go use the armory?

Now ask yourself a question:

Have you ever lost your pistol confused-fix.gif

As well as how many ppl would actually answer "Yes" to this question. (maybe we should have a poll about it)

Personally i dont see a real benefit: It might help 1 of 100.000 players, but i would grant acces to easy abuse.

btw. could you change "You people are pathetic" into smth like "Some of you are pathetic" cause i feel personally offended, thank you
Gecko_God_Of_Dooom
You could just make it so that if you drop you Pistol or LMG. when you get another one the old one disapears. including its ammo.

To prevent ammo exploiting
Zek
Boojum, the problem is that this change provides a truly trivial benefit, but creates a somewhat less trivial exploit. I don't think it's a bad idea, but it won't work unless you come up with something to stop LMG/Pistol spam without impacting normal gameplay.
A_Boojum_Snark
You can only get a replacement weapon every 30 seconds.

There, easy fix I'm sure the devs could have thought up themselves.
Maxx1
Well Id say if your clumsy enough to throw your gun into a hole then u wouldent make much use of it anyway tounge.gif
Alternatively wouldent it be easyer to just make the pistol "non discardable" like the knife as its no longer replaced by other items?
Blue_Mary
The pistol shouldn't be droppable in the first place. It doesn't drop pistol ammo after all, and no weapons take it's spot.

But I like how you get a new LMG if you use the armory and don't have a lmg.

Gneralas
If your giving someone else your shotgun or hmg etc. just pick up the gun they dropped, if it falls in to some sort of annoying place...too bad!
minadein
Just because you drop your pistol in some unreachable place, it doesn't mean you're clumsy. I think this is a good idea. Playing NS makes me shake with excitement, and I often press stupid buttons tounge.gif

limit it how often you can do this
Zunni
I can't think of any reason not to include this, except dropping your gun in the field means you have to walk back to MS to get another one, OR have an armoury built in the field..

One costs res, the other has a reasonable chance to get you killed (depending where on the map you were)..

All for a free weapon that if you were more careful wouldn't be an issue in the first place..
