I mentioned this in the other FF thread, but figured I should make a separate thread for it. My suggestion is that there be an mp_friendlyfire 2 setting, which enables mirrored friendly fire. Simply put, teammate damage is calculated just like in normal FF, but anything that would have hurt a teammate damages the attacker instead.
The advantage to this is that encourages players to watch where they aim just as much as FF, if not moreso, while also not being susceptible to lamers and just generally being more pub-friendly.

yha, sure why not.
but then how do you punish the nub that jumps infront of your perfect sg shot that would have killed the fade if he dind't jump in the @#$%! way

Interesting idea... if this were implemented I'd rather see it still doing the damage to the other player as well as to yourself, to avoid the problem listed above.
For a long term solution, I'd like to see some sort of tk punishment system implemented when NS is run without tournament mode on but with FF on. (i.e. - NSPlayer just killed you. Do you want to 1. Forgive 2. Punish?)

as long as we can still have realistic FF too w/o the PoD (tournament mode) then:
*vote yes*
~edit~
I would prefer a traditional FF system with a menu that pops up if a teammate kills you which says something like:
1) forgive
2) slap
3) slay
4) start kick vote

Mirror damage sucks. Especially in TFC. One misplaced grenade = death. The grenade launcher would be horribly crippled with mirror damage. No one would ever pick one up. If a noob jumps on your grenade then you lose life. If someone runs in front of you while you are shooting, then you die. If you are shooting in combat, and you hit a wall wrong, you die.

Although mirror damage can get annoying at times, it definatly helps keep people from shooting at their own team. And as long as its the choice of the server to implement...

I don't know about TFC, but friendly fire in NS doesn't do all that much damage... Though this would certainly get people to stop shooting grenades in the middle of their buddies real fast. The damage ratio could be lowered even more if necessary, though I'm not sure it would be.

i dont mind it if the people are decent enough to take heed of it, but on combat, it gets pretty hairy at times, and i think it would be more problematic than helpful.
the mirror damage is kind of cool, i think it would make people think twice before lobbing grenades all over the place, but also it could wreak havoc with even semi good gls because theres always the skulk or lerk or some other rine that jumps in the way of the gl, and it falls to your feet, so not only are you taking your own gl damage, but the 3 or 4 people around you's combined mirror damage, so, even though its only like 30%, if you hit 3 or more (including youself) you are taking quite a bit of damage.

Picture this: You're assaulting a hive with your team, you're pumping in grenades. A teammate jumps in front of you for reasons unknown, a grenade bounces back at you and lands in the middle of a group of team mates. It explodes, doing 30 damage to five marines. Killing you instantly.

At which point your team is short it's GL launcher and suffers appropriately because the guy with the high-explosives wasn't skilled enough to be watching out for his own team-mates.
I fail to see the problem. This turns the GL into a weapon of high skill as opposed to a spam-meister. In fact, with mirror damage, I'd favor seeing the GL damage increased, as it's use would become more specialized.
Normal FF puts the onus the firer to be aware of where his team is when he's shooting, and the penalty on the team if he isn't.
Mirror FF puts the onus on the shooter to be aware of where his team is when he's shooting and the penalty on the shooter if he isn't. That seemes perfectly fair to me. Much more fair than reality, to be honest.
