Full Version: Sub Model For Ns_altair

I was doing a submarine for KungFuDiscoMonkey (for ns_altair) and I managed to finish the model but now have a slight problem. My copy of 3ds max no longer recognizes the fact that it has a license, so I can't mesh/skin it. That, and I suck at skinning tounge.gif

So if anybody would like to take a crack at it, here's the 3ds, and there's concept art (some of the pics are dead however, but the color scheme is there in one of them) here in the request thread.

Here's my 2 most up-to-date renders, but I'm not sure if I changed anything since these. I don't think so, since the file modified dates are pretty close, but there might have been some small tweaks.

CoolCookieCooks
i would skinmesh it but my hard drive died on me. sad-fix.gif
KungFuDiscoMonkey
Looking good and would be great if someone could skin it so that I could get it in time to put this into the version for b6

I downloaded the .3ds and it seams to be bugged. Some parts of the model look like being rotated and there are some holes in the model o.O Please fix it.

I also need to know which format (512x512? 256x256? ...x...?) of bitmaps you want the skin in and the amount of bitmaps. I'll then try meshing it smile-fix.gif

*edit* Nevermind, I loaded it up again and looked a bit closer, it seemed to have moved parts of the model all around, kinda strange.

Obst, grab the main body of the submarine and move it along your Z axis, then you'll see another part, move it on the Z axis, then you'll find the hatch, the the rim of the wheel to open the hatch, and the little top piece of the sub.
Perdition
Like so.

I know this.
But I won't touch someone else's model, even for "fixing", because I might do something wrong.
Perdition
Okay! Just tried to help. biggrin-fix.gif

*edit* I started to UV Map it, I think i'm doing it right so far. If not, don't be afraid to tell me to go to hell. Here is a picture of my progress. (This will be my very first attempt at UV Mapping, so dont expect anything amazing.)

*edit2* So I went through and finished up the UV Mapping, I know I did a pretty terrible job on it, but if you want to atleast see it anyway, let me know.

obst that problem you had with parts moving around seems to be a bug in 3dsmax exporting to .3ds it just sometimes messes up
Tofumaster
I'm not great, but if this is meshed, I'll give it a shot at skinning.
KungFuDiscoMonkey
Any progress on this? I've love to be able to get this into the b6 version of Altair if I could.
Obst
As soon as I get a fixed version of it I will mesh it.
SkinnY
fixed ( ms3d )

fixed ( 3ds )

fixed ( mdl )

fixed ( obj )

that should about cover it...

1929 polys. Lots of triangles, but it looks very nice. What is it going to be used for? Looking out a window and seeing a sub in the water? And then the water specialist Kharra swims along and eats it? I think: yes.

I was checking out this mesh, and found it was a little wierd in places. I'm not a mesher, but this is kind of hard to skin on.

Obst
It is also kinda hard to mesh, because there are no subdevides in the sperical surface. So either I'll have to make some "cuts" which would have to be covered by the skinner or it will stretch like mad. Please chose.
