Spawn_of_Chaos
Hi! I'm Spawn of Chaos, a new user and absolute n00b mapper. You won't see any of my screenshots on the "Post Your Screenshots" thread for a while...lol anyways, I was wondering if anyone had any old maps that they either gave up on or just couldn't find the time to complete that I could use as inspiration for a map. I have no idea how to map... confused-fix.gif

Edit: Below is one of my only maps...sux...was never finished...lol take a look

Hello, and welcome. If you want to get a good start at mapping. Try out The Collective for good tuts and other things that are useful. Good luck.
Spawn_of_Chaos
wow if I would have known the ppl here were so helpful I'd have stopped looking at the Screenshots thread and posted sooner! nerd-fix.gif

I want to make a map that's like a deep underground mining camp that's been converted into a TSA barracks and fort, but the Kharaa have blocked off the entrance. However, as I said before, I suck at mapping...lol so if someone could please help me, that would really be nice.

Edit: bah the "asrifle" title didn't work... mad-fix.gif

ok why is no one replying? mad-fix.gif

I would really love it if someone was to give me a random corridor or a door or something that they made which they don't plan to actaully use. I need some INSPIRATION! Also, I need someone who lives on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle, Washington to come over and help me start NS mapping for real! Thanx for any help, support, etc. Oh, and my "asrifle" thread, I was just trying to get this asrifle.gif as my title tounge.gif

Look over both NS and NS2 wads carefuly and play around with some textures you pick out and build a test room. Come up with a scheme that you like

The old HL style guides are always a good read. Guide 1 and Guide 2

With some time and luck you'll find something that you like

Merged your other two topics into this one. Try not to spam topics when they're all generally on the same subject. And welcome to the forums.
Spawn_of_Chaos
lol I've never been good at that bob...thx for the warn. anyways, I completely have no experience at mapping...did anyone DL the .map file Fenced In, or, as I want to call it eventually, co_escape

Edit: If not, I'll put it up again.

Edit (again): Srry for all the edits, but it's a Worldcraft .map file, not a playable .bsp. lol have fun making it actually not suck ppl! asrifle.gif tounge.gif

Well thats your dilemma; you have no experience to draw from. So you need to start getting some experience.

Edit: Maybe just posting that image and leaving it at that wasn't the best thing to do but I'll leave it there for now. I'm just getting a bit tired of the influx of new mappers who fail to see that forum at the top of the page. Also there is no reason to post 3 times in 30 min just because noone has replied yet. These forums have people from all over the world registered to them. Give it some time (I'd say at least a day) before you start complaining that noone has replied yet.
Spawn_of_Chaos
tounge.gif srry that was actually another thread but Bob the Janitor merged my threads...I owe him a big thanx lol siege.gif

Edit: and yes I did see that forum I'm just not too big on posting in more than one forum tounge.gif

Seriously, read the mapping guidelines. Draw some pictures. Make a simple room. Give it some nice, fitted textures. Give it some lighting. Then start an NS map. If you need help doing that FIRST try searching the Mapping Forum for an already existing thread on it.

Once you've done that, or at least made a decent attempt at doing it, you can be sure not to get any begrudging comments from me. But until then I'm not going to give you any more help. Everyone's new to mapping at some point, you just have to persevere and teach yourself. You really don't need ideas fed to you like a baby, just beleive in yourself and give it a go...

P.S. Welcome to the forums biggrin-fix.gif

P.P.S. If you get bored of your current idea have a look at this. In one of my posts I said something about the original idea for the map that got scrapped. Other than that, no more freebies!
Kester
Your best bet is to leave that map, open ns look at a few maps, then open vhe, and make only 1 room, make it to the best of your ability, don't worry about any other rooms.

Then when your done make another room totally different to the first. After this try you hand at a combat map and don't worry if it doesn't look how you think it should, most of us here have been mapping for years so have alot of experience behind us.

Dear Spawn Of Chaos, this is not the right place for asking such help. If people told you to post in Mapping Help subforum, there is a reason. Just read the FAQ (someone gave the link too) and find the answers by yourself because they are written in guides and because guides are written for this purpose. So stop asking people to explain you the b.a-ba of mapping, this is not a place for it. There is the subforum for that. Thx tsa.gif

Yes, please take this to the mapping help and troubleshooting forum. Guys, thank you for not bashing this new member too much, and for giving constructive instructions.

Before anyone suggests it, I've already researched his IPs and he ISN'T nexus, unless next has moved to a new continent. tounge.gif

*LOCKED* For now. Start a new one in the help forum if you need help.
