| I know Flayra mentioned considering 'persistant world' elements in the sense that there'd be a set number of distinct battlefields that would have to be conquered, defended, and reclaimed, with a strategic group-deployment superstructure (think of it as a supreme commander deciding where to carry the battle) overarching the actual down-to-earth gameplay in an interview, but can't say whether that's still in the planning. |
This spawned an idea in my head, which is something we can more or less steal the idea from Star Wars: Battlefront.
Why not make it so that if this variable is on(note: this would require a thing to change the map 30 seconds after the end of the game, and no one can join, period during this phase), that as soon as the game is over, it begins a vote for the Kharaa(whether they won or lost), which chooses the next map, between a small selection of maps, like 3. What this would do, is encourage a almost 'Story Mode' atmosphere, because when a team chooses the next map, it excludes the others for use until another specific time. Hopefully, this vote would be within a actual menu that would pop up, with a map to show what maps this will enable to play next. It will increase atmosphere just by adding a simple menu, and a single picture, and make things a little more interesting.
...and hell, if its possible to override the screen going black for loading, why not have the map there with the name of the map your loading being highlighted, with the loading in front of that?

do you guys know about the map.txt files? I didnt know about them for a long time (shame on me...)
for example ns_hera:

The communications colony on planet Hera (named so for its similarity with Earth's neighbour, Mars, but on a much grander scale) was among the first of the targets set by the TSA for salvaging from the then mysterious Kharaa intruders. Due to its ideal transmitting position on the outskirts of the Ariadne Arm, this colony was decided crucial to the TSA’s attack against the Kharaa. Therefore, they had to first eradicate it of all Kharaa presence before moving in. The colony consists of many various stations, all connecting to two central structures via high-speed transport tubes. All the workers and their families live in Rhea, the larger of the two complexes. Cronus is the name of the other, and is the control centre of the communications outpost. The only other man-made structures of note on Hera are the fields of electricity harnesses, set up in calculated positions on Hera’s surface and designed to capture the energy from the raging electrical storms thus powering the colony.

I guess that nearly noone reads these Backgroundstories...

but shouldnt they be mentioned somewhere? Perhaps in Quaunauts Menu where you are able to pick the map
and why not replace the black background with a drawed picture of a scene that fits into the background history of the map? Or perhaps just some pics of the planet (not the map) itself ...that would rock!
(if possible)

I like this idea as the story can create so much atmosphere for players who are new to the map. I dunno how big the textlimit would be, for example my
backstory kinda turned into a fanfic
Maybe I could just include chaper one...
*Thumbs up* to this one!

well it sounds like the best of two worlds!
flay want fast and short battles, the crowed long and epic battles
with a "conquering mode" you can have both!
maybe you lost the match but not the war

only addition i think the winner should get some kind of bonus...
