I just wanted to resurrect an old but great idea of mine since we now have somebody who cares reading through I&S.
NS GLOW!Plz post in the new thread.

I don't think this is high-priority enough to get in until somewhat far in the future...still, unless someone can explain to me otherwise, I think it'd be foolish to ignore the possibility of making NS look this good. Moved into I&S' future idea subforum.

it's nice -
could be used for alien cloaking vision?
or some other weird thing unique to ns =)

No, read the thread... It's just a visual option that makes the game look a lot nicer and is relatively easy to implement. There's a walkthrough right there, I'm not sure why it needs to be put off.

i looked through the old thread, saw pics of NS maps with glow.
/me wants
how does this affect fps?
:edit: read farther into first thread, nvm

I have a little trouble with the underlined word. I do think it is cool but blurring all of the vetricies to make it look "TRON-ish" is not something I want.
Personally I want crystal clarity. If I wanted blur I'd play Halo or TRON.
*vote no on implement in NS*
*vote yes on it's a cool coding experiment*
~edit~
Yes on implement if it is a toggle. Blurry vision jest seem kinda like erm ok that's cool but I don't want blurry vision. Thanks but no thanks. Does that make sense?
~edit2~
Idea! I could go for a very slight blurring. Not as over done in those pics, but something about a half or third of that would be much much better and I'd be willing to go along with.

| Blurring - Rather than blurring to make a glow, simply blur the current scene and then render that to the screen. If you activate this when the player has received damage from a melee attack or falling (when the screen is skewed) it could create an interesting disorientation effect. Combine it with rendering two copies of the screen offset from one another for an interesting double-vision effect. |
nice thing!
/me wanna have it!

If you read the thread, you'll see that the blur and the glow and everything is totally configurable by the user, to custom tailor his visual experience. And these changes would provide no gameplay enhancements to those using it besides seeing really cool lighting effects. Since it -looks- so easy to implement (given that it has that walkthrough and all) I'm very very very much in favor of this.

I wouldn't mind seeing this as an option in NS. But as default... I'd have to play it to be convinced.

x5, all of your concerns are addressed already. You can change the blur effects client-side, including setting the blurring to 0, which makes it look normal.

No.
Thing is, NS is GRITTY. The ONLY time I'd want this is related to glare: AKA, when I'm walking up the ramp towards rine start from generator on ns_mineshaft, I'd want the light at the top looking like its a damned light. But I wouldn't want textures like wall textures getting this extreme condition.
Is there a way to implement the glow so it only applies to texture lighting? If so, and someone only used lights for the thing, THEN It'd be whicked cool. Otherwise, its more of a "Eh." thing, because it brings away NS' feel.

good question!
is this a global or an optional ... thingy..

Like so many people have already have said, its configurable and Im sure the NS devs wouldnt just copy and paste someone elses code directly even if it is free.
They will most likely put their own spin on things.
Right now what we should be pushing for is getting this code into the game then later on request all these types of features.

It would be cool to have this at certain times (like in Farcry, when you got hit, the screen blurred and turned greyscale for a bit) but always on...no. It's cool to have glow as a special effect when something is happening, but it sucks to have it always on. It makes it harder to see and wouldn't fit in with the gritty feel of the NS universe at all.

Once again, it is easily turned off in console.

it's prefect for everyone, those who want it can have it and those who don't want it/ don't have a strong enough machine to get stable FPS with it on can turn it off.

I'd really like this to be implented, basically because of two points:
Firstly it rocks (read: It looks so impressively good I'd think about stabbing me in my face if this doesn't get implented in the future);
Secondly I don't see the point of not adding this (well, if the coders don't want to do this job, this is a thing I really can understand), if you just take in the option to adjust the amount of blur or turn it off completely
Thumbs up.

All they would need to do is throw the code inand leave it off by default, that way all the players that know what they are doing can turn it on themselves. This WILL work as having it on or off shouldnt give you any advantages over anyone else. That is of course if it doesn't make cloaked players glow

Honestly I don't think it looks that much better. Just makes it feel like your character's got teary eyes.
