I have a spotlight placed here and i was wondering how it calculates the angle of the lights. If I wanted to make a more intense, focused light, would I set the outer (fading) angle to the same as the inner angle, or make the outer angle zero? Also, for the brightness, is the scale comparable to the brightness used in the lights.rad file? Or is it on a different system?

Secondarily, is there a way to bypass the "Both teams must have players to start the game" message? I'd like to get a feel for running distance as marine/alien.

the "pitch" function calculated where, on a 2D 360 degree plane, where the light will shine. So, in this case, you would set it to a number on the diagnal plane. (45, 135, etc)

As for how to get it to shine at another angle, Im not sure. Ask Kouji San, hes good with lights and positions. smile-fix.gif

Okay so you have two angles, but I think of them as two separate cones

The inner angle is for unfaded solid light. The outter angle is the faded cone of light. Setting same values will give you solid looking cone of light with somewhat smooth edges. Setting the inner value larger than the outter cone will give you a rough edged cone that is very pronounced.. kind of self explanatory

Ok...here's the scoop on the Inner and Outer Angle deal...

Inner angle - solid light
Outer angle - Inner angle (solid light) fades to 0 brightness at the Outer angle

For a super soft light: Small Inner angle and an Outer angle that is 150% bigger than the inner angle (40 degree inner angle = 60 degree outer angle)

For a nice soft light: have a difference of about 25% (same e.g. - 40 degree inner would be a 50 degree outer)

For a hard light: no difference between the two numbers (e.g. 40 inner 40 outer)

Brightness?

Here's the fun part - it's called trial and error. It is more or less getting used to the way HL lights stuff. Throw a nice env_gamma into the equation and you got rethink brightnesses all again. The lights.rad file doesn't affect your entity light brightness

Running time?

Put "developer 1" and "sv_cheats 1" in console. I believe the game will start without opposition players when you join a team..

If U want spotlight exatly focused. Use func_null (or something like that) and target this entity by light_spot.

u mean info_target, anyhoo u shudnt use that as it adds to ur ents, instead use info_null
