i'm holding comments untill i see what's inside the boxes. the outer shell of a source map can be very deceptive.

Can't really comment on anything as I can see only the outside parts of your map (hopefully you've already added something inside as well?). Althought lay-out looks quite a simple and it seems there is only one way to marine start and each hive (I presume watersource, mine and air purification are to be hives) it seems you've managed to plan a lay-out where locations make sense (mine -> refinery -> metallurgy). Please post inside or preferably in-game shots of what you have done. This looks so uninteresting.

ps. I suggest you to keep the basic lay-out, but add some smaller rooms and hallways there. Just keep those key locations.

edit: lay out -> lay-out for clarity's sake

Woah, some serious l33tness going on here, makes me wonder why I even map when I'm not even near this level off pwnage. Make sure to add a RT in every room, and make the corridors longer while your at it.

But yes, we want more screenshots. From the looks of it right now... this is some kind of... hollowed... weird... thing. With the same texture on all sides...

Nice use of textures, lighting is a little bland. Needs more colour, those bright scribbles just aren't doing it for me. Try and make some of the blocks curved rather than just cubes - its very boring at the moment. If we must stare at these blocks, how about adding some computer screens, texlights, maybe some kind of atmosphere. Fog/steam around them, as if the blocks are in a swamp! In their natural habitat!

Umm... Most of us here *are* mappers, which means most of us have already touched and are extremely well-known with Valve Hammer Editor. Besides, VHE is one of the most simple programs I've ever used, I find it easier to use than Photoshop.

but is it possible to complete a rubix cube that you've made? Or did you just randomly texture the squares?

Not randomly, but no, it's not solvable. Each color has 9 squares.

to use vhe is quite easy. if you know HOW to use it. we should be honest: we spend weeks to understand, how things work. but you getused to it very quickly.
erm, what does this have to do with this screenshot btw? he seems to be VERY new to this forums. otherwise we would have realized that nobody cares about
1. hammer shots
2. boxes
3. screenshot that show absolutely nothing
make ingame screenshots. no matter what, not showing ingame shots is a crime!!!

wait till we see the inside -> because we see the outside
we see the outside -> the interesting part is the inside
this is a semi professional mapping forum -> we HAVE TO see the inside to judge anything
we dont have anything to judge -> so we can only write nonsense
nonsense -> its the basement of the idea to start a thread with a picture showing absolutely nothing so it really fits here
XD
I think Im going to only read the posts. writing anything seems to be a waste of time.
me -> no nonsense

So what do we have here?
A completely non-descript screenshot of the outer hull of a map with absolutely no accompanying text, and then 3 pages of stupid comments about it. I honestly don't know what carioca was hoping to get out of this thread, but i'm tempted to say "You have been trolled."
carioca, if you wanted some serious feedback on this map, feel free to make another thread with some real screenshots and maybe, i dunno, some TEXT. For now, I'm locking this thread because it's silly.
