What exactly does hud fastswitch 1 do?

If you press 1,2,3,4 (or any key bound to slot1/2/3/4) then it changes you to that weapon without needing you to click again. If you turn it off then try and swap weapon you can see the diffrence

Even better, add
hud_fastswitch 1
to your userconfig.cfg file to make it permanent!
(if it doesn't excist in your ns folder, make it.)

typing hud_fastswitch in the console should save permantly without needed to tweak configs. I know it work that way for me.
Now... if only the dev could apply this feature to invnext and invprev like DoD does... that would be great

You can also go to the options menu and then hit "advanced" and you should be able to find fast switch

But beware of Slot 4 when you have fastswitch on. In case you have 2 weapons there (for example grenade and welder) your weapon selection gets "stuck" there until you press fire.
Example:
You have grenade and welder. You press '4' and you see the normal weapon list opening at the top of your screen. If you now try to change to slot 1, 2 or 3, nothing happens before you have selected one of the slot 4 weapons.
Imho the next weapon in the slot should just be selected without having to press fire.

hud_fastswitch should work for your mousewheel too...

nah, hud_fastswitch dosn't effect your mwheel
you have to get the right binds for that
there are 2 ways to scroll through weapons, one is invnext/prev and the other is via impulses.
just look at your configs and figgure out the correct one.
/me is to tired/hungry to do the work

hud_fastswitch is great, but I love lastinv much better, it allows me to press 1 button constantly and change weapons instead of having to worry about two, and its much closer to my hand, thats just me though...

start a game of ns
type: bind mwheelup
look at what it is bound to
type bind mwheeldown
look at what it is bound to
the one that looks like lastinv or previnv or nextinv or something is the style you want. make a similar bind for the other mwheel direction.
it aint that hard, just figgure it out.
