Permagorges have been heavily penalized by the alien's res system ever since they lost their bigger res share in 2.0. To clarify, by permagorges I am referring to players who stay gorge the entire game to heal and build structures, not the old 1.04 one-gorge strat. I believe that forcing aliens(especially in large games) to tempgorge all the important structures takes away an element of strategy from the alien team, and doesn't cater to those who enjoyed focusing on the RTS experience once in a while. Players who effectively remove themselves from the action game by remaining Gorge for long periods of time should be rewarded somehow; currently, it's exactly the opposite since getting kills is the fastest way to get res. These suggestions are separate from eachother and not meant to go in all at once, but I didn't want to start separate threads since they're just alternate means to the same end:
  • Give Gorges bonus res from every tick, independent of the divided res pool. Something like 50-100% more res than normal. However, in order to prevent people from using Gorge to save for evolutions, this res bonus would have to be Gorge-specific: more on that below.
  • Remove Res for Kill for normal species. Instead, every kill made by anyone on the team gives a small amount of res(not split) to every Gorge. For example, if there's only one gorge, he receives 1 res for every kill his team makes, but if there are 3, they receive 1 res each. If there are no gorges, the res goes to a pool that is given to the first person to gestate to one. This not only encourages permagorges, but gives aliens a choice between few gorges with higher res flow(more kills), or more gorges with less kills. In addition, it helps out large games where aliens can get more kills. Anything you gained from R4K would also have to be Gorge-only.

In order to stop the ability to use this res for other things, namely evolving(the biggest reason Gorges didn't get extra res in 2.0), the following system would be added. As long as you are a Gorge, the game keeps track of any res you are granted as a bonus(be it extra res, or R4K). Gorges would only be able to gestate into a Skulk. As soon as the Gorge dies or gestates, all of its bonus res is removed and placed into a separate, hidden pool. This pool would be given back to him in full as soon as he goes Gorge again. So if someone earns 30 res during his time as a Gorge, a portion of that(let's say 10) came from R4K the Gorge bonus. If that player dies or degestates, 10 res is taken from him, but he keeps the other 20. If he Gorges again, he immediately gets 10 back. This way, the Gorge res would be impossible to use for any evolution, but there is no actual loss of res for people who intend to go Gorge again.

Sounds good, but 1/3rd of your res sounds a bit steep for getting killed. There must be another way...

Well, it's not much if you consider that most Gorges don't keep a large res surplus unless the team is very rich.

My only issue is all the "temp perma-gorges" that would result, they would take advantage of the extra res, and go fade/onos as soon as they could, meanwhile the poor fellow actually trying to drop the hive, can't do anything..
Lion_King
Giving them extra res will make it exploitable and taking 1/3 of the resources would make the alien team weaker, especially if some noob/griever piles up 100 res and dies a few times...
taking out R4K and improving alien resource flow(or making things cheaper for them etc) would be the best thing i think

Well, how about this for a solution that stops res whoring without hurting real gorges: any surplus res earned from being a gorge goes into a separate pool that is only given to you while you're a Gorge. For example, you just went gorge and you have 30 res. You drop 2 Ds at the hive, bringing the res you started with down to 10. Then you stay gorge for a couple of minutes and it goes back up to 50 res. Let's say for argument's sake that half of that was a result of the Gorge res boost, either from R4K or the extra res bonus. If you are then killed or go back skulk, your res immediately drops to 30 again(What you started with, minus the DCs, plus the "normal" res flow you earned) when you spawn. When you Gorge again, the 20 extra res is returned to you.

It sounds complicated, but it's really rather simple and would eliminate any potential exploits of the Gorge res while not hurting the real gorges at all. I'll edit my original post to include this.

so what you are saying is the aliens have a hidden pool of res that can only be accesed by the gorge and the gorge cannot use this res to evolve into anything other than a skulk. I guess it could work. Would this pool grow any if there where no gorges in the game?
Zek
It's just a mechanic to ensure that any bonus res Gorges receive from this would only be used towards Gorging, effectively getting rid of the only real problem put forth about Gorges receiving more res. All the hidden pool is for is to make sure the extra res goes away before the player can use it for anything else.

I guess it could work. And your calling it bonus resflow as in, it doesnt subtract from the other aliens who arent gorging right? So what your pretty much doing is emphisizing the placement of more structures vs permagorging. I mean, anyone who wants to permagorge currently does it, and asks his teammates to clear areas. With this new system permagorges will do the same, go gorge, ask his teammates to clear areas, and then drop Ocs and crap everywhere. Plus this also means the hive will go up a lot sooner than currently.
