Well for many a month now I've wondered how to not spoil things in the fan fic forum when discussing a story. Animesuke has a little spoiler tag where you have to click to read the quote, but thats on different from IPB.
However lo and behold rave did something obscenely cool with quote and color tags
for sheer irony, if you want to try and figure out you can try, or you could highlight the spoiler quote ~_^
QUOTE (SPOILER!)
[ QUOTE=SPOILER!] tag and the [ color=#031D1F] tag then you say what you were going to say "wow, I didn't know that so and so dies and the end of the story, or wow, I think it's cool that the elite squad of TSA made it off the station in the nick of time. Then it is vitally important to close you tags [ /quote] [ /color]
and voila, one spoiler free post
in short, it's a working viable way of discussing a story in it's thread without ruining it for the people who haven't read it, and you don't have to do any more *** SPOILER *** type stuff
[edit]
close a tag >_<
did I spell spoiler right?

Alternatively you could just look at the forum's source and use the regular background color and put SPOILER, HIGHLIGHT BELOW at the top.

so... what does this have to do with fan fiction... it's an faq topic not fictional story thing...
Oh look at my mad skillz n00bozors woooo!

agent are you actually reading the thread?
lemme break it down for you:
for starters, in the Fan Fic
FAQ, molecular [know who that is?] states that ***spoilers*** tags should be used if your going to discuss part of
fan fic story and you don't want to ruin it for people who haven't read the story yet. Unknown Enemy got ruined for me when I found out that
QUOTE (SPOILER!)
The main characters die when the TSA hurls asterioids at the kharaa planet
thats a prime example of how this could help
True it's not really a FAQ, it's more of a guide, I'm sure rob6264 will be more than happy to change the title if I asked him.
However, it's is an obscenely more effictive way of preventing people from reading discussion about a parts of a story that they haven't read.
make sense?

[edit]
and tommy, true you could do that, but having the spoiler inside a quote box makes it real clear when the spoilers starts and ends ^__^

Hehe...I haven't touched this forum much, and I don't think I will even because of school....
Honestly, I don't know why it is in here too, but meh, one thread is already enough =X
Anyways, there is more than one way to conceal messages, you do not need quote tags at all, all you need are the [ color ] tags
I'll go around and give an example. ROWR I MADE THIS!
Did you see it? Of course not, it's not there right? Actually, it is. Just highlight it after the sentence.
You can also do stuff, like this.
See the small space? Notice the abnormally cryptic message there?
There are MANY other applications for his, I'll leave it up to your imagination as to how you will apply it....
And if anyone is interested, here are the color tables for posts.
Regular posting : #041E2D
Quote-styled spoiler : #031D1F
Alternatively, you can look in the forum source, and look for these...thingies in background-color (been a long time since I used CSS....)
.post1 - Regular posts
.post2 - Same as above
#QUOTE - Quotes
And that practically ends it all on how to stop spoiling stuff.
EDIT : Fixed cryptic message.
