I am running Win XP home on an amd 64 3200+

When I try to open the beta 4a patch "ns_v30_b4a_patch" (which I downloaded to my desktop) I get this message:

"... The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction."

My options are to "close" the application or "ignore" the problem. If I chose ignore, I get the same message only it's called from a differnt location, in other words its encountered another illegal instruction. I press ignore again and the application closes.

I have tried the following:
-re-downloading several times and reinstalling several times
-double triple and quadruple checked the correct ns installation guide on the forums
-double checked that there are no duplicate files or folders
-simply trying to join a game but i get the server map doesnt match yours or you have wrong client error message
-scratched my head a few times

I miss ns, I would love to play it again, thank you for any help.

An immediate fix would be to try the installer on another networked (assuming that you have several computers networkeD) computer. If it works, install it to a folder on that computer, then copy and overwrite all files into your existing nsp folder on the computer you wish to play on.

I don't have any solutions pertaining to getting the installer working on your computer, though.

Ok... I know the feeling of not being able to play NS...

So here is a little gift for you... extracted and zipped version of NS3.0 beta 4a patch... download and unzip it into your half-life directory keeping the directory structure...

Deleted the Link

HTH ^_^

PS: Although Im pretty sure my machine is clear; please do a virus check before opening the file.
