A recent search of my harddrive revealed 74 "ztmp" files. All happen to be located somewhere in my NS HLDS, which is not targeted in any way in my build or compile configs of Hammer. They include bsp, wad, spr, mdl, tga, wav, and txt files. e.g ns_bast.bsp.ztmp HINT: other than the example shown, all files are related to custom maps I have edited entities on.

I find them in my maps folder on my server. For some reason the server creates them........I have no idea why.

For what it's worth, my hlds is running when I compile my maps. Scott, are all of your ztmp files for custom maps you've modified?
DEADscott
They are from custom maps, dosnt seem like all custom maps, just some.

They're created when a client needs to download a file from the server. The file is compressed so it takes less time to download - the ztmp files are used so if another client requests the same file it's already compressed and can be sent immediately.

Now I'm really confused. If I have "sv_downloadurl" enabled all files are downloaded from the webserver, not the hlds. These ztmp files are located on the hlds.

Perhaps the files weren't found on the http server and downloaded from the hlds? Or perhaps they were created before you enabled sv_downloadurl? Of course, I'm only guessing - an easy way to test it is to delete the ztmp files and then (1)try to download a custom map with sv_downloadurl enabled and then (2)with it disabled. If they reappear after (1) then I'm completely wrong. If they reappear after (2) then I'm likely right. if they don't reappear, then I'm also wrong smile-fix.gif

prsearle I believe you are correct. It was difficult to believe THAT many files were downloaded before I enabled http download. Eventually though I had to disable http as it was eating up so much of my bandwidth.

I apologize to the mappers for mis-placing this topic.

The "ztmp" files continue to accumulate, in spite of sv_downloadurl being enabled and NO files being downloaded directly from the gameserver.

Moderator/s, kindly move this topic to General Server support as I mis-posted here and don't want to double post.
