I was playing as comm today as usual and I got a great (crazy?) idea.
If the commander does not have enough res for a
Building such as arms lab / Proto Lab and he tries to place it then it actualy apears as some sore of hologram to him (and maybe even the other marines). As soon as the commander has enough reourses the building is placed.
The reason I stress buildings is because I think it would be good it the commander still was able to drop med packs if they were required and lagged meds are not much use in battle.
Even is the commander was not busy it would still allow him to do something else rather than wait for the resourses to flow in.
Anyway what you guys think?

What happens if he ques multiple buildings at once, I would guess it would go in the order of queing. What happens if a marine is inside a hologram just before it starts to build.
EDIT: Good idea btw.

well, you could call the multitasking a necessary learned skill of being a com, so while it would be helpful i don't think it should be put into the game

Nice Idea, however you sometimes get the odd ***hole who like to jump in the cc and recycle it and ruin everyones game time after time after time after time ect... blah.
This would be another thing that could give the idiots another way to mess about.
But i do like this idea if you would like it for RTs only, but you would have to make a Cancel this button incase you changed ur mind, you dig

lotta tamperin with everythin else.

If a marine is in the hologram when the comm wants to drop it then the comm couldnt be able to drop it anyway
Yeh there would be a building queue maybe 3 long? so you cant plan your whole base first
If nanites can disintegrate bullets so marines dont kill eath other with friendly fire what would stop them making them stop armour from going through the hologram (and therefor the aliens will be able to go through it)

ya very good idea m8 (:
i think marines shouldnt b able to walk into the hologram, but aliens should b able to. and if the comm has enough res and it automatically gets dropped, and if an alien is in the hologram, the hologram disappears, nothing gets built - it automatically gets cancled.
on this way aliens wont get stuck, and marines wont cause a cancle. but that wont b easy to code :> and also only marines should c the hologram to avoid a disadvantage for the aliens by hindering their sight :>
edit:
rue just think about what might happen if it would b done like u said in the last post:
the comm has 0 res. he places 1 proto first, then an IP, and as 3rd a siege. now the comm got the 40 res for the proto, but its blocked! a marine is standing in the hologram, so the proto automatically gets cancled. now the next building in the que comes - the IP. 40 res he had minus the 20 res for the IP = 20 res left. a siege costs 15, so it also get instantly built. now the comm has lost 35 res, has 5 res left and has to wait a long time to get the res for his proto. now he loses the game just bcuz a marine blocked his hologram/buildings spawnpoint. not smart

ps: something like that for upgrades/researches would also b nice (:

I think, when this get's ever implemented, that the nanites should be able to push any player away, which stands in the way - when that node is near enough to a cc or something (so the que can't push gestating aliens from a node or something like that). which should realy be implemented is the thing that placing a (marine) rt on a node, while a rine stands on that node, the player is pushed away; like with any other building...
of course, this shouldn't work while an egg lies on a node.
btw: Coke, could you please remove that quote from me from your sig? thx.

So, as an avid player of WC3.. i recognize this. You could hold shift and place little images of buildings that would be built as soon as the last one was finished, making a build queue. So, arguably, since NS comm mode is also RTS based, the same features should translate...
Im not sure about this, its kind of nice, but it might change the feel of the game.

Or you could leave it as is, if you have the res, drop all the buildings you want, if you don't, then wait until you have enough.
If a feasible system of canceling structures place in queue and limiting the number of buildings in the queue to a reasonable number, and the system could work with a less costly building being inserted to the front of the queue, all without crashing/lagging the server, then I think it should be attempted.

haha, I'd like to drop holo CCs in alien hives, but recycle right before I get the res for them to be placed

Like i said, you will get a lot of ppl jumping in the cc to f*** about and ruin the game.

mayb if theres no cancle button for the holograms, what would b kinda ***** u know? ^^
plus u can place 3 holograms at once only, then the que is full.
i love posts like urs kenichi :x

Yeh the holograms would be like solid structures to marines (nanites at work) but aliens have no problem walking through it. This would stop people cc blocking with hologram cc's and stop people blocking your unbuilt structures.

There's a big flaw in the whole point of this modification.
You say the reason for this modification is so you can look after your marines with meds and ammo etc. Well if you have 0 res then how are you going to give them meds?
The simple solution is don't try and place a structure when you haven't got the res. Simply look up at the top where it says how much you have and if you've got enough place it else keep looking after your men.
Being a good com is about multi-tasking quickly and this wouldn't really help the situation (just make it more confusing).
Hope this post doesn't come off as mean, I'm just trying to be logical.
Cheers,
Meto

I understand what you mean and its a valid point but a protolab is what? 25res?
I would be able to place it and if my guys were not in combat with aliens for the time it takes me to get 25res then thats all good. If my guys needed ammo/meds in that time I would be able to give them it without having to be hovering over the base waiting to build something.
