Would it be possible to add a laser pointer on marine guns? Like in the menu picture. That would be sweet.

I've seen it done in game on a custome server, while I personally liked it (as both alien and marine) a lot of people felt it gave away too much on a marines position, and thus took away from the gameplay and created a bunch of whiners.
I can't remember which server did it, I havn't been to it in a long time.

it would work better if u had a button to click to toggle laser...like the flashlight..

Well, you could have a laser scope on the Handgun and LMG, but it'll only be visible in first-person view.

whats the point in adding useless stuff into the game?

Maybe he means, that also the accurace of the gun is increased when the pointer is active... like the "desert eagle" in blue shift...

It's not as if it would matter, the crosshairs stay the same. But if implemented, it does give away much of the marines' positions, and they would have to make it a habit to point at the wall instead of ahead of it (similar to sniping in TFC).

hmmm
replace flashlight with a red laser
the laser can be used to spot cloaked aliens and thus improve the usefulness of laser. and When the laser hits something it will identify it!
flashlight, when turned on, doesnt just gives his position away, its like portalable X-mas tree on a marine!

This is a screenshot from a CS server that had them, looks cool. If they can make a server with them that easy then it shouldnt be too hard to put it in the game.

They were briefly in the game, and removed due to balancing and exploitability. They were an experiment that did not work. Bringing them back might be a possibility, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

well, that laser-pointer would just bring some disadvantages for the rines along with :O

Just give the option to turn it off.
Talesin, what exactly was wrong with them?

lasers would just be more trouble then they would be worth, aliens would see marines coming if they saw LASERS blazing from all their guns
it would be kinda neat to be a feature to turn on and off. but a laser isn't really needed since none of the weapons are meant to be used for terribly long range shots

The pistol is used for long range shots

Laser pointers look quite cool, but
a) they don't help you aim
b) they act as a big sign saying "HAY SKULKS WATCH OUT HERE I COME!!". A skulk seeing a lone laser pointer coming down the corridor knows to either run away or set up an ambush.
It's a nice effect, yes, but detracts from the gameplay and is a disadvantage to the marines.
( Hhmm... instead, how about a super-turbo-charged-power-laser that destroyed anything the beam touched?

)

Well, as a flashlight replacement with some ingame benefits (cloak detection, smaller bullet spray or whatever) might be a nice addition.

well if you made the lazer pointer like lazer traps for security they would only be seeen ON the target not through the air. also like in the movies where they spray smoke the spores and umbria could make the line visible. also when the laser sight is on something it could alow you to "lock on" it while it is in a range.... well maybe, but it is a thought

The laser would be an effective tool if used like the Coast guard. Their men have infared goggles on such that they can see when one of their guys is aiming at a boat or whatnot, whilst the enemy can not. For a marine team this toggelable effect would be priceless. It would make covering a room that much less guesswork if you knew where your team was aiming.
In higher level play where you already have that planned out/ practiced it a lot you could just turn off the laser.

i like the coast guard idea, and if not to that extreme the just dot idea... regular laser pointers dont shoot out big red lightsaber beams, so why should these?
the target ID and uncloak is also a pretty good suggestion, but it would have to have a delay, otherwise people would abuse it like with the flashbang and the whatever the variable is to show_username or whatever and make it almost instantly...
if not this, then redo the flashlight to uncloak people...

I think that the thing behind the laser is that if you made it light blue, transparent, and seeable only by teammates (see coast guard reference above), it could also help break down that horrible learning curve with regards to teamwork. As of now you just sort of have to *know* where your partner is aiming through some sort of ESP, and getting that kind of chemistry on random pubs wont happen.
With lasers to tell the rest of your guys where you're pointing it would make everything a helluvalot easier.

making the laser idea somewhat seeable to aliens might be good. That way marines learn how to work as a team, and aliens learn where marines are gona look when they clear a room. As the skill of a players goes up, it can be turned off to keep the rines from getting ambushed.
