i have autodesk inventor, is there a plugin for that that'll unwrap em? ^__^ i found a freeware program that'll make em too, but because of the triangle polys, it kinda rapes the model when you make the foldable design, it sucks because i'd like to have paper-prototypes of my models.

actually only tens of thousands if you get the right brand, but yes i wish they were cheaper too, that'd be so awesome to have a map of cs and then the little figures, and be like 'omg i sniped this nub, here'

i'm gonna own one once i get the money (meaning when i'm like 45)

carstock is paper...
paper is rated by "pound"
computer "laserjet paper" is 20lb.... i hold in my hand 80lb paper.. which actually is textured to feel like bluejeans...
the higher the "pound" the more "stiff" the paper is... good luck finding some high pound paper that'll run smoothe through a laserjet...
...sometimes, i hate having a printer for a father...

Which is why I use a straight-printer... I may have to toss some of these through on 120# press, or outright Bristol.
Hell, if you printed them on tracing paper, you could probably do one out of thin aluminum with a pair of tinsnips, a dremel, or a rotozip. Burnish, paint, make a few bits out of thin (or heat-softened thicker) plastic, and you've got a perfect Hallowe'en prop with the addition of a few glued-in washers or weights to add heft. Maybe toss in some foam latex as well to improve structural stability.

great idea but it would be a pain to connect pieces of the shiet metal and bend it properly without the right tools

hence the dremel, and rotosnips.. you will also want a straight edged razor blade to create creases for folds and small cutes (they have two sides for a reason.. use the handle for folds)

agreed that that is an awesome idea, but i've only printed out the blue pieces (not actually blue) and there're three more sections, and i still have a billion of the blue pieces left! hell this is hard enough with paper, i'd be insanly hard with tin.... i migh do it if i get enough, because this takes 30 sheets of paper... i've only printed out 12 so far...
and i have my print quality on quick so i dont use up all the ink ^__^ otherwise my printer would die

I'm waiting for his Smartgun kit.
I ended up just taking a disc of the images to a print shop and using the Force to get them to print em out for me. Sweeet.
Also a lot of stuff by other people, eg Miranda class Star Trek ships, the Botany Bay, etc etc etc etc.
So, who's the first to make the NS LMG and Pistol?
