Yo peeps, I need help in my skulk bites.

In most games when I see a marine, I try to ambush him. However, when I get really up close to him (biting range). My bites doesn't seem to register. Marines tend to be jumpy and eventho he is right in front of HUD, my bites aren't working. I've tried aimming up but it doesn't work. sad.gif

Sometimes if I'm lucky, I can finish a marine off with 2~3 consecutive bites. When I try to do it agian, it doesn't work.

At times, the weirdest thing I've seen of NS is when I deliver my last blow. Nothing appears on my HUD but I get the kill. I was like WTH!!!

What am I doing wrong? Any skulks tips to improve my biting? I see a lot of good skulk'er just go up to a marine can finish him very quick with 2~3 bites of chain bites. Also, how you all dodge those bullets?

The quick kills you see are people exploiting the locational damage. Jumping and biteing their back is best or biteing them from the side. You do alot more damge this way.

locational damage = what's this? *blur*

Anyway, it's difficult to target their backs or side. They'll be facing at you most of the time.

It could be a lag issue, where they're not actually where you think they are.

The other thing to remember is that if you're spamming bite heavily, you may run out of energy and thus while he *is* in front of you, you're simply not biting due to energy issues.

If its neither a lag issue nor an energy issue, then its probably nanites.

wth? There is no locational damage in ns!

i think there is locational damage......... because it i fall from a cieling and bite a guys head it only takes one bite and the blood is explosive. might have been a server mod though

There is no locational damage in NS. You will do the same damage if you bite the foot or head of a marine.

The strangest things with the register bug (I'm calling this a bug because I personally think it is, please do not interpret this any other way) is that it can happen in a couple ways.

Basically, when you bite one of a few things can happen:

1. You get blood, but no marine grunt
2. You get no blood, but a marine grunt
3. You get both

All three of these situations may or may not constitute a register.

So just because you think a bite connected, theres always a chance that it in fact did not.

So, you have a couple choices. You can practice biting a marine in quick successions. Many good skulkers kill their marines before they turn around and jump back to get some distance. Or you could aways scream 'WTH, Register Much?', blame it on lag, or whatever else rocks you boat. Both choices are used and generally accepted (the latter gets you laughed at, mostly).

There is no locational damage... but you'll find killing rines a LOT easier if you aim at the bits which move least - this means head and chest. If you bite the legs, chances are knockback will save the marine from your second bite. The marine could jump, changing his hitbox and also meaning a potential missed bite.

Divebombing from above effectively nullifies knockback, meaning your two bites will hit *every* time, and that means dead marine very very quickly.

It used to be locked, it's not locked anymore.

I don't see how you could just type a couple of characters in a console and consider that hacking. You might as well call bunnyhopping hacking.

tweaking my interp and updaterate improved my game smoothness and effectivity as a skulk by 120%.

necrosis: divebombing is quite challenging without leap, because the skulk cannot jump off from walls. it can only "drop". but as usual the vent is your friend smile.gif
Necrosis
True enough - but a good ambush spot is one with a ledge or similar where you can drop from height. Ceiling crawling is only so effective, and far too open... but many maps have vents (as you said), ledges, high crates, etc, where you can still get a height advantage over a passing rine.

You *can* get a little bit of distance if you're running along a wall at full pelt... but its meagre compared to any of the above.

You're totally correct!!!

Today, I played a game where marines are crack-jumping. Their hitboxes are sooo buggy. However, there is another thread last time talking about how the damage dealt to the marines are base on the models and not on the HUD. confused.gif

All this would make sense...I get that a lot.
I just wish that before they fix this "bug" that most of the ns community will know about this.

Sometimes I say that my bites don't register and some lame pubbers say like : You just missed, or, no no your aim was bad!

It's sad.
