Hi i have a Natural Selection server running in my dedicated server but when there are 10 or more players playing, the ping is up than 500 ms what could be happening because it does't use the 10 mbps and the server load is 18.

The server is a:
celeron 2.0 fsb400
512mb ddr
HD WD 80 GB 7200RRPM
LAN 10/100 Realtek
RedHat 9
Kernel Version 2.4.20-31.9

What is your upstream bandwidth cap? If you tell me 10mbps or 100mbps I'll thump you.

Go to http://www.dslreports.com/stest and run one of the speed tests, from your server or a machine connected on the same Internet Link. This site is one of the few that tests both your upstream as well as downstream capacity. Post your results below.

Over a week, no response, guess he doesn't care to get this resolved.

I can't test the upstream in http://www.dslreports.com/stest but i was uploading at 1242 kbs without problems.

Why weren't you able to run the test? Did you try all three of the primary test sites at least once?

Questions about your setup:

What have you tried to alleviate the problem?

What else is running on the system? FTP Fileserver? bittorrent? Web Server? Messageboards? Anything else that might use bandwidth that I didn't mention? Do you share the network with any other computers?

Do you run the server CLI only or do you use the Xwindows (gnome/KDE) graphical system?

What is your connection setup? Are you Co-lo? Cable? DSL? Router? If router, what model?

Is your Realtek NIC onboard or separate PCI? Have you tried installing Generic Drivers for the NIC? Have you tried disabling/removing your current NIC and replacing it with another one of a different brand like 3com or Intel?

What's your system utilization look like at the time you notice the lag spikes? If you do a traceroute out from your location what does that look like? Does traceroute show the lag starting right from the first hop or out a few hops from there? Can you ping sites? What do those stats look like?

Help me, help you.
