Full Version: Styles Of Fading

In my opinion the fade is the hardest class to be really good at. There is quite a variety in how to play the fade as well. I tend to blink in and decide before the fight the latest point in which I'm going to leave it. That tends to be after 1-3 swipes regardless of a kill or not.

Other fades often blink in with the intention of getting the kill but only running when their health is low.

Some blink in, blink around a bit and then go for the kill.

Some blink in and blink between marines hitting as many as possible.

Some of course walk in not knowing what blink is and die.

What styles of fading have you tried and what has been the most effective for public and clan games?

[EDIT] Do you have any little tricks you like to use?
Celiz
i like to blink in , if possible upwards to the cieling , look around at the newbest, or weakest person , fall down swipe once, twice if im not gettin dmgd much, blink out, then repeat until the rooms cleared

im not the best fade in small games(pugs/scrims) but in pubs i'll do pretty well with a fade
BigMadSteve
If we have two hives I will rush in, get a kill or two then run out. Carapace works wonders for a fade.
Grahf
I blink through a room, to count the number of enemies and try to get ambushers to come out. Then I blink back in and take one out, if im not hurt much I kill another. If they have sgs I am much more careful, rarely staying in on a target for more than a swipe.

The Usual Styles are:

The Hit and Run: Blink in, swipe once or twice, blink out. Rinse, repeat. It is important to know which marine you swiped before blinking out, so you can blink in for the kill next time.

The Hit and Run 2: Blink in, swipe once or twice, blink up out of view to take a few seconds healing, blink back down for the kill.

The Dodger: Blink in, Blink around the room and let them waste ammo. Blink down for the kill.

the Hit and Run is most effective: favourable damage given:damage recieved ratio, once you blink out they sometimes take it as a time to reload, which means time wasted to reload cancel, saving you a nice chunk of damage while coming in.

for all three styles you should be crouching like your life depended on it.

You don't always need full health to get into action. Actually, it wastes time to heal 100%. All Fade styles rely on quick actions, feigning, and unexpectedness. For example, the Hit and Run strategy is going to get you hurt, no doubt, however, once you blink out, you waste valuable time healing while they're recouperating (ask comm for meds), reorganizing, and better positioning themselves for your rentry. Of course, if you have the time (ie, before the first strike) heal up for maximum efficiency on the field.

Surprise and being able to kill efficiently is a fade's forte.

I'm not a great fade, please correct anything in my post if i'm wrong.

The most effective way to use fade is to blink in and out of the room as fast as you can. After practice youll be able to land close enough to a marine to swipe them, swipe once blink out and instantly blink back in. Useing the fade like this multiplies its power many times over.
Monkeh
i usually blink in up to the ceilling scout out abit see whos the weakest blink back out then blink in for the kill or harrase them abit then blink out. rinse and repeat

or if am playing my sneaky fade (silence) try get round back of them they are dead before they relise what happens then blink away meta then repeat
Kevlar_Gorilla
Blink in with skulks behind you. The noise of the blink will distract the marines to shoot you, while the skulks bite them. Blink out at about 75 armor.

Teamwork for the win.

love shooting down a fade that dosent blink. Scared as hell at first shooting entire lmg clip in him then pistol then realoding lmg and finishing him with it tounge.gif

Not that I regularily fade (I've done it like 8 times in total), but I've spoken a lot to people who do, and according to them, there's absolutely no reason to blink when fleeing. Blinking does for the fade what it does for the skulk: reduces air-friction. In essence, standing up gives you better control of the fade, even though it might be a bit more fridge-like in blocking aspects

To Svenpa: I love skulks that don't bj... once on a clan game, I had 2 skulks with low hp still after me, when I was out of ammo... I ran away from them as my marine jumps made me faster than the non-bj:ing skulks, and when the reload was done, I killed them >E

If I have 2 hives and adrenaline, I'll probibly do the whole, blink around till they're out of ammo and go in for the easy kill. At one hive, depends on how many there are, and if they have shotguns or not. If there are 3+ I usualy ask for help, because they can put some hurt if you get caught on something. As for the whole blink to the ceiling, I dont care for it that much, because you're an easy target just floating up there, I usualy blink to the top if I'm right in front of them, and then just to confuse them, blink straight up, then float back down and land on em.

Also a blink swipe technique is always the best, considering you can blink past, swipe as you go by, and repeat 2 more times and they're dead, but this requires good energy management.

I'm usually very careful, generally I blink in and do an instantswipe on the closest marine. If he's alone I'll keep swiping, if he's not i'll usually do two swipes before blinking out no matter if I'm low on health or not. After I'm out of range I check health etc, if they're still high I go in again. Remember, the important thing is not to kill someone it's not to get killed.
DC_Darkling
blink in, do as much hits as possible and blink out when my armor gets to low for my taste.

vs a shotty that can aim it's far better to just blink in and try and get 3 quick swipes on him if you want to kill him solo. Blink swiping a good shotgunner will get you killed unless you wait to regen (in which case he will have backup or meds).

I've heard this as well, however, crouch-blinking does reduce the chances of being hit, especially if you blink just off the floor.

Using crouch-blinking to be harder to hit works well because of a bug, or so I have read. I think the bug is being fixed in the next version. Then again, I could be wrong about all of this, it's just stuff that I'm pretty sure I read somewhere else.

Very situational.

2-3 marines, I check there weapons. . . most likely LMGs in Combat (I'm basing this off combat), with maybe a shotty, usually just kill the shotty then kill the LMGers. (Matters how many shots the shotty got on you though)

4+, I don't like this situation unless they have LMGs, I'm always the overcautious fade that never likes to go below 2/3 with a shotty nearby. I will most likely harass them and get some lerks to help, or a simple Zerg swarm.

1v1, my favorite. If the guy has a LMG I literally let him empty it into me before I kill him. (-Combat-)

Shotty, I crouch and jump and basically be a little unatmospheric fade.

HMG, hurts a lot if you stay in it's scope for to long.

GL.....don't even bother asking for my opinion.

LittleToe
all depends on the skill of the marines and if it is co or nsc

Co
if most can shoot well then i play hit and run

if most of the marines cannt aim well i blink around untill they need to reload

NsC
hit and run better safe then dead
Buggy
If I'm not lazy / overconfident, I like to get one swipe in between blinks, even on lone marines.
Skydancer
I always try to assess how many marines I am going to face by listening to their footsteps, then I'll blink in, take out one, blink out. If health is high, repeat, if low, heal up to 100 armor and repeat. If there are shotguns, blink in, swipe, look health, swipe or flee, flee, regen to 100 armor. Peek, shotty blast, go in and kill shotty n°1. Flee. Repeat.
exileSoul
i try to blink so when they try to jump away they jump into a wall. this also prevents the **** knockback. i try to go for a kill in one blink unless they have armor 3. pubs may be different depending on the commander. in scrims/pugs medpacks are dropped so u try to peck their armor and go for the kill since hit and run will take for ever with medspam. in pubs i just try to go for the kill in one blink unless they hvae a shotty/hmg. of course this doesnt always work. if i play crappy i usually stick with the usually hit n run which i find very adrenaline consuming =| 1 hive that is.
TOmekki
i hardly ever fade until they have ha or jp smile.gif so its insane hit-and-run with cara and cele. or one-on-ones against jp'ers. i'm not a very good crouch-blinker, though. and i see no need to learn that since its (hopefully) fixed in b5.
cortex
My style of fading : blink to where i hear marine(s) if there are more than 3 i usually blink out to the nearest exit, take a peek at my hp so see how much dmg they managed to do to me.

then i just hit and run though i always like to come out of the room knowing i killed one rine.

if tehre are less than 3 i usually just blink around a bit, feign a run around the nearest corner come back and blink swipe till theres nothing left...

anything more than an lmg i just hit and run, one swipe each time.. biggrin.gif
Guillaume777
Another technique : blink in, slash and blink around for some time. Then, blink out while you still have some hp, the marines will think that you fleed. Wait 2-3 secs then blink in again, all marines will be reloading their gun biggrin.gif Most of the time they won't be able to shot and will be totally panicked smile.gif
kolokol
Its just annoying when marines are seigeing your hive from a narrow corridor and have shottys AND can shoot. Its so annoying dying as your blinking in before you can get close to one biggrin.gif

alot of people are straying away from crouch-blinking now a days because it kills your air control. You'll find that you'll get stuck much more often when crouch-blinking.
degamer106
man just use like kung-fu or something.
Death_Blooms
hit n run smile.gif

blink behind a marine kill him, blink away.

come back look for more, if they see you ,blink behind them, kill them. leave.

its so funny....
