As the heading would suggest, I have a very minor issue with Steam. I am just coming back to NS after a long absence and I seem to have run into a small wall. I can not get NS to appear in my Steam Games. Thats it.... I went through the stickied NS&Steam post but couldnt find anything to help me with this problem. I am positive that I installed everything in the proper oreder, I have initialized HL, etc.

A preemptive thanks to all of you who take the time to take the time to help out.

do you mean to say it's not in under steam at all, or that it's under 3rd party mods...

if you followed the instructions carefully there shouldn't have been a problem..

I can give u a shortcut for NS:

x:\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 70 -game nsp

where X is ur drive u got Steam and NS installed on...

If that works u got the problem solved i guess (not completely but you'll be able to play biggrin.gif)

read.
understand.
follow.

This will MAKE sure that NS works (And if it dosn't it will even start the debugging process)

QUOTE
Install Steam.

2) Play HL atleast Once via Steam (just booting up the training mission will do).

3) Download these 3 files:
ns_install_v3_b1.exe
ns_v30_b4_patch.exe
ns_v30_b4a_patch.exe

4) Install NS V3.0 Beta 1 (ns_install_v3_b1.exe) (This should auto install to steam\steamApps\your@email\half-life\nsp, if it does not, move the NSP folder there).

5) Install NS V3.0 Beta 4 (ns_v30_b4_patch.exe) (point this at steam\steamApps\your@email\Half-Life\ do NOT include the NSP).

6) Install NS V3.0 Beta 4a (ns_v30_b4a_patch.exe) (See * at bottom).

7) Search your Hard drive(s) for folders named nsp.

8) If you have more than one you messed up.  Goto Step 3.

If you folow these steps properly you will not get client.dll or map.bsp errors.

If you are positive you have folowed them corectly then redownload the installer form a different location.

*There aslo seems to be a bug with, atleast some of, the 4a installers.  Try pointing it at steamApps\your@email\ instead of steamApps\your@email\half-life

Note: This is a file stored on my desktop because I have to use it so many times.

Well, I am going to reinstall Steam to see if that will help anything because I am positive that I installed NS correctly, and Thansal's post reiterated that fact for me. There is something that I am not getting cause even the shortcut provided doesnt work.... I even tried it as e:\Valve\Steam instead of Steam\Steam thinking that might be causing the hitch. But nope, neither one of those file paths exists. By the way, it is not at all in steam, there are no listed 3rd party apps in my games directory.

nope still no luck... I think I am have to redownload the various installers incase one of them is messed up sad.gif

Well, no luck at all even after reinstalling Steam, all of the NS beta installers, and than redownloading everything and trying it again... I am now really stumped. I know I did everything right so if anyone else has any guesses biggrin.gif

I have no '3rd Party Apps' section to my game menu at all, and the given shortcut does not work... Should I just give up for now?

Find out where you installed steam.

Then you need to install ns in the steamapps/email/half-life section. I am 90% sure the problem is your installing in the WRONG directory.
Thansal
as I said, did you actualy follow the guide?

aka Step 7?
YKK_Zipper_Co
Followed all the steps, including #7, I've had it in the right directory this entire time confused.gif

Steam itself is working in and of itself, because I was playing CS.

Actually I can't find the CS directory, so maybe if I track that down I will try to place the NS directory under the same location tounge.gif

GOT IT! biggrin.gif

I see exactly what was going on. Beta 3.0 had a default installation path (for me) at e:\Valve\etc etc, however Steam had a default installation path of e:\Program Files\Valve\etc, I just never payed attention to it since the NS installers always installed their default pathway including the steam folders so I never payed attention to it. I couldnt change the pathway in the 3.0 installer so I didnt even bother thnking about it, but I realized that if i changed the install path in either the 4.0 or 4.0a installers it would effect the 3.0 install path ^^

Thanks for the help all!
