I have a pentium 3 processor and 56k modem connection. Now I know my computer isn't too spiffy but surelly it's fast enough to play a H-L mod

This is what I thought untill I actually joined a server for the first time. About 30 seconds later I was kicked with in big bold letters "YOUR PING IS TOO HIGH!" (Nice way to start your first game ey?) Now almost every server I join I get kicked with the same problem these days. Am I not alergable to play Ns? If so is there any way I could lower my ping without using a cheat or script?

Well, short of getting a better connection, you could tweak your O/S's settings and tweak hl preformance settings to get a slightly better ping. It won't do much, so really, a better connection is the only solution to your problem. Try playing a LAN game with some friends if you can't play online.

High Ping Kickers (HPK) usually kick players with latencies over 200. Check your latency first. If you really cant stand being kicked over your high ping, try playing in a server without HPK plugins and more tolerant admins.

Also, make sure your rate is set right. Open Steam, go to 'options,' hit the internet tab, and choose the correct internet setting.
