So, the game just won't start at all!

First problem was:
when quitting a game, NS would just stop working (Not responding). It was after hitting the "Quit" button or typing "quit" in Console while in game. [same happended if clicking "disconnect" in advance]. Only way to close the program was "End Task". And if I started to play again all was OK at first, but the end (quitting) was the same. [could close Steam with no difficulties]

Later on:
After another crash and "End Task" I could not close Steam - it "felt", that some program was still running under it. ("End Task" for Steam also, then )

Now:
NS crashed, "End Task" for NS, close Steam, run Steam again, try to play - no result (while loading NS throws me back to Windows desktop with no errors at all)

What I tryed:
1) just re-pach the beta4a. - no use
2) re-install NS from scrach - same.


Any ideas, what to do?

I've seen this exact issue if I try running Cheating-Death and beta video drivers. Are you running CD?

as far as I can tell this is the possible result of two things:

a) beta video drivers
or
b) steam update that CD hasn't taken into account yet.

if you look in your CD directory there should be a log file cdeath.log or something like that that lists the issues and logs what happened as the HL engine tried to start. I'd suggest posting this output on the CD forums, after searching for like issues, and seeing if you can figure out what caused your issue. In my case I searched the cd forums and found a faq on crash issues, and a matching error log. I had to revert to older nvidia drivers to get CD working..

Hope this helps, glad you found a way to play NS at all. I guess at the least you can play NS on non CD servers till the CD team gets their client updated with new video drivers and new steam update info.

It's Cheating Death. Turn it off for now until the next update is released.
