There are many people I would like to mention at the start of this piece, as I feel that the ideas and inspiration I got from them deserves a mention before the story, rather than at the end.

The first person has to be Charlie Cleveland for giving us the wonderful game that is Natural Selection, and for providing us with many, many hours of online fun.

I would also like to extend many thanks to KB|Spawn and the rest of Team-KB for getting me into the game in the first place, and teaching me how to die, very often!

There are many pieces of fan fiction that I read over at the Natural Selection Forums, which really got me interested, but there is one piece of work that made me want to write my own story. It had me gripped from the start, and I can’t wait for it to be finished!!! What is that piece? I hear you cry! That piece is Natural Selection - Monster. Quite possibly one of the finest pieces of fiction I’ve ever read, fan based or not.

It was all very well and good wanting to write a story, but what did I know about the history of Natural Selection? Well, actually, nothing. That’s where Gates, Moon and Stars came in. It provides the reader with the background required to fully understand this story. Gates, Moon and Stars is the definitive history guide to the world of Natural Selection, and as such was where I took the basis for the technical and historical aspects of my story. Please read this marvellous historical study of the Natural Selection universe from 2000 to c.2200. In fact, read as many of these great fan fiction stories and histories as possible, for the greatest background on the greatest game of all time.

Please note that this story is written with the idea that readers already have background knowledge of Natural Selection, in that they know what the aliens look like and how they operate.

Bah, not happy with chapter 3. Chapter 4 is stuck in writer's block land. Chapter 5 is very vague and fuzzy, but on the plus side, chapter 6 is crystal clear in my head and nearly finished!!! Got to make sure i don't kill off the interest in it, before i get to the bits i'm happy with. Any feedback?

Whatever, story beginning to get a bit out of hand now, ideas coming by the bucketload, it's just trying to keep them within the frame of the story thats the problem. Have loads of inspiration for where i want this story to go, just need to be a bit more confident and descriptive in my story, not go the tension, the drama and the suspense that i want, oh well nevermind. This is my first attempt at writing a story since i left school, all those years ago!!

Tell you what ill print it off and read thru it later tonight, im a very hard person to please tho

chapter 10 is now up, i'm not happy with it, but i gotta post something up here, or i'll never get the story finished. Suffering from a real mental block, hopefully now i've got this chapter out of the way i'll be able to get back into full flow.

Any comments? Any Corrections? I sure as hell know that this isn't pefect, so if you spot any errors, or have any comments for improvement, please let me know.

Wow, back from a lovely holiday in Gran Canaria, and i feel refreshed, Got my head down and now chapter 12 is online and ready to go, a bit of a return i feel, as the last few chapters were hard work, and a little crap, shall we say, where as 12 wrote itself. I'm looking forward to the next few chapters, and hopefully i can keep myself focused!!

I'll read this tomorrow (unfortunately it's 2.15am here and I'm just passing through) - I noticed a few grammatical and spelling mistakes as I read the first chapter; would you like me to point out any that I find?

On initial impression, I must say this is looking very good Keep it up.

I would appreciate any help Parhelion. I will warn you though, the story goes very weak in the middle, sort of lost focus, but hopefully it's getting better now.

Soul Rider, you got nothing to worry about. As long as my brain is in summer (off) mode and I'm used to providing instant action for the readers on the Halo forums, you've got no competition. Great work! But when my mind gets back in gear, watch out. I've got some great overarching story ideas, but in this late August stupor my characters have personality like alien drones and a third of my vocabulary is dormant.

Anyways, keep it up I'm enjoying the read.

I apologise, I've been very busy with university work at the moment...but at least here are a few corrections for Chapter 1.

Finally done the edits for the first chapter, thanks parhelion. Still working on the next chapter, getting a bit confused as to what i'm doing there, but hopefully we should see it online within the next week!!!
