hi all, im new to the whole mapping thing, buti think iv learnt quite quickly... aparently iv made a decent ready room, but it has no entities and textures to the surfaces... iv tryed adding join team entites but i cant find them in the entities list.... how crazy

so i was wondering if u special ppl can help, like tell me how i can preview my map, how i can texture it and 3 the results while in editor, and wth the vertex tool does... cheers if u reply biggrin.gif

plus if someone can take me though steps though a series of email itll help (and i HAVE looked at the guides and they just confuse me tounge.gif )

(btw, this map will be slightly different from most siege maps... ull c when i get in on public servers... siege.gif )

join_teams etc are brush based entities, you create a box, and then right click on it(when selected), go to Tie To Entity, and in that list you will find the entity you wish to define. This way you can make the area to join a team as big or as small as you would like.


preview your map? i suggest you go back to the FAQ on the mapping forum, that's a lengthy answer. i use Batch Compiler and it works great.

if you can't figure out how to texture your map, you didn't read ANY of the tutorials, go to the TWHL site for some basic tutorials in Hammer.

the vertex tool allows you to manipulate an object by moving around corners or just sides, so you can get odd shaped... shapes.

i said that for a reason... they are not in the entities list... all i have is join players and map info along with all others.... little help other than being lazy and pasteing a link? tounge.gif

did you read this? out of curiousity? you create a box, just like i said, then, when selected, you right click, hit Tie to Entity, which will bring up another box, with a list of entities. these are called brush entities. the only part i left OUT of that is that you'll want to texture these in "null" which u can find in your ns.wad

anyways iv tryed that... nothing... ill start map again, heck i got ready room saved on 2 copies

hmm... i now have a vedetta against spyware and pop-ups, cso they were installing some crazy stuff onto my comp which stopped me from viewing certain things, like i couldnt view proterties when i right clicked my desktop... but now iv deleted it all and it works! cheers darkseraph for that... now... onto the map... ill post if i need anymore help, and u dont have to reply if ya dont want to, but itll be GREATLY appriciated smile.gif

ok now all i need is a layout of the map... ill make 1 to show u all but itll be crappy and evil... the main features are;
#1 Aliens have a backup hive after seige to help save them, but it is VERY inaccessable to Aliens.
#2 Marines have a kind of fort in the room leading from the CC, makeing it a great relocation area.
#3 Door room is flooded slightly (on 1 side???)
#4 Long corridors and open spaces for Marines (on there side of map) and smallish, cramp coddiors and spaces for Aliens (on there side of map)

feedback and ideas would be appreciated... biggrin.gif

err maybe i'm not understanding, but what's the point of having a siege map if the marines can't win by sieging? doesn't that destroy the purpose of a siege map?

o forgot that there will be a weld point aswell that locks last hive room and drowns everything + kills hive once i figure out how to do it... the weld point will be located in the once busy alien hive rooms (that were seiged probebly)... if aliens dont stop the marines from rushing in and welding it it's game over... encourages teamwork and last-man-stands biggrin.gif

i might scrap the idea, but itll make the map different so it dont look like a famous seige map rip-off tounge.gif need more ideas if i do scrap it, but i kind alike the weld idea, dont u?

edit; drowns aliens and not rines.... sox for that lol

o_O sorry bout the long wait... had a few issues to sort out in my social life... lol

now i was thinking of adding, a marine res room, moving hives up a bit so sr can seige both hives and res, making doomed hive right behind ms allowing seige and other stuff like that biggrin.gif

btw u like the 'dark room' idea or is it waste of space?

ummm, if i saw that map correctly, marines START with access to the siege room

iv litterally done the rr now, ill put a piccy of it on here (itll be 'poop' so dont moan lol)
