How do I create a ready room? I know that its the basics of creating 32 spawn locations 128 units apart, but, how do I get the peeps to JOIN the map from the ready room? Im confused...

There are brush-based entities that will cause a player to join a team when they walk through them these are:

Info_Join_Team (For Marines and Aliens. Set it to Team One or Two)
Info_Join_AutoAssign (For Random Team)
Info_Spectate (For Observe Match)

Just cover each join portal with one of these.

"Additional RR features including:
An Info_Spectate brush entity to join the spectators.
An Info_Gameplay point entity to tell NS what species team one and two are.
An Info_Team_AutoAssign brush entity to act as a random team join.
32 player starts at least 128 units apart to prevent telefragging.
Team entrances that are wide enough for 2 or more players to pass side by side. "

if you still need to know how to create each brush just ask.


and on the actual signs for team joins:
"The marine and alien team joins are each made of 2 brush entites, an info_team_join (actually makes the player join the team) and a func_illusionary (for the sign itself). The func_illusionary is textured with null on all but 1 side the remaining side is textured with the appropriate sign from the NS.WAD. The func_illsionary has it's RenderFX set to distort, RenderMode additive, RenderAmount 255. it doesn't matter how you texture the info_team_join it is invisble in-game."

No, I understood most of it, just not how to get people to join teams. Thats all I needed to know. I have plans for my secret room... wink.gif

im waiting for the reply to this cos i need the same info for my ready room, cos i cant find the entities that supposedly do it... they aint on entitie list confused.gif

lol biggrin.gif fiine, but only if he understands it now, if he still doesn't... no promises. i know brush entities are hard to figure outat first, but he didn't even READ my post or he woulda understood. tounge.gif "create a box" is pretty hard to misunderstand. (ok ok i'm done)

lol i did read it, but my whole comp is ***ked up so that might be stoping me somehow... im trying it now so pray for meh lol

(btw, i cleary stated 'im new to the whole mapping thing' so dont get angry... hell if ur the only help and u moan everytime i will ask my m8 in sweden... hell his done some cool stuff over da yr's on other games tounge.gif

Dark, I DID read your post, and I understand it already. I said that in the last 2 posts I had up. When I said "I understood most of it" I meant I already understood most of the ready room concepts and basics, and just needed that info.

recoup, the first part of that last post was not to you, it was to james smile.gif calm down. and i understood all you needed to know is about brush based entities: join_team etc.

i barely learned the editor a couple years ago when i played CS, been mapping for 2 weeks atm. most if it isn't very hard, but there are some confusing things. and since i asked for help, i'm trying to help others.

and sorry about your comp james, i know what you feel, have some stupid adware on my comp that i can't get off, and i REALLY don't want to reformat. again, sorry for my short temper sad.gif

Here's a real N00b question. I have nearly finished building my first map, it's gonna be a co map, as they seem simpler than ns maps. My question arises from the fact that i have managed to build 90% of the map, and am texturing it roughly at the moment in prep for selecting proper textures, but i'm close to building the ready room. I know about the specs for the ready room, I know about building point entites to enter the map, the question is -

Do i build the ready room -
1 - attached to the map?
2 - seperate from the map but in the same file?
3 - in a completely different file?

Like i said, total noob question but one i need an answer to!!! biggrin.gif

since its CO, you dont have to worry about it showing on the minimap, so just put it anywhere that doesnt interfere with your map
