What strategys (as commander on marine side) do you use for the maps??? what should be first built??? and the best base layout??? (i ask that because i dont wanna be overwhelmed by the features and then not know what to do, aliens come and the marines die. *WHINE*)

I think it's up to you to figure it out in your own way. Read the manual, think about it, get used to the way things work in the game/ how long things take to build/ armour or buildings, research levels, and see what tatics other commanders are using and which ones work well. Adapt them to create your own style.

From the bits of wich I have read from the manual, you need to first build an infantry portal. Then a resource collector.

Most important, do NOT command unless:
You have a headset
You know the map from both teams perspective
You have very good ping
You know a tech tree direction by heart you want to go in, and have a back-up
You have played Commander before (atleast tried it out)
You are a leader.
Not to be harsh, but without these qualifyers, do not climb in that chair.

+ Make sure you have a half decent graphics card. (Software is NOT supported in commander mode. At least, not until the HL engine gets updated.)

These things shouldn't be treated too hard in the first days - everyone will be a newbie then, so a lacking commander won't be as screwed as he'll be later.

Plus, a lot of us PT's will be trying to make ourselves available to either command, or teach new commanders. If you and a couple of friends want to have a commanding tutorial, so to speak, PM me in IRC (usually going by [FoR]Slaptop) when I'm around.
