Hey,
is there an official map team for NS. Because there should be one if there ins't. I did post a message like this in ideas, which I cant find. Er.. so this is more relevant.
Should there be a map team for everyone to trial.. Then the game will get better maps and more ppl...
Live on NS gamers.

I saw your message on the other boards. Welcome to the map forum! I check in from time to time, ill let the estabished denizens take over from here. No there is no official mapping team, just alot of individual projects. If you want to map or start a project im sure there are people who would like to help.

No there is no official mapping team just individual mappers. The official maps recieve their status after a mapper submits his map to the ns team for playtesting. They playtest it to see how it plays. Usually there is a lot of communication at this point between the team and the mapper about ballance and bug fixes and in the end if it's a good map it is added to the next version of ns.
At least that's the way I understand it to be.

i doubt a "mapping team" would work, because there are 2 possibilities how it would be run. 1: a group of people working on one map at a time, each doing specific areas. now, no offense, but this wouldn't produce "unique" maps, like all the ones we have are now, because every mapper has a different style and visions how the map should look.
or, it can be a loose community of people, all working on their own map... with discussion going around and tips and help being shared. but then, that's the it's now, isn't it?

well there are several problems with this idea.
some mappers who have a job might not do their job, do it well, or just not do as they are told. some teams might have fights over textures, which ones to use, etc. the funniest one ive found is that, once it starts, it stops after a week or so. but anyway, if it has like 3 to 5 people, then its good, if its over 20 ppl, then no.

if you had 20 ppl on one map it might get a bit annoying.
3-5 people is good. Good contact all the time and meetings regulary.
If you got into groups un-finished ideas could be past on to another team or another person. Ive made 4-5 basic maps and now im going for the finalli.
Hehehehe

There shouldn't be a "map team". There's several reasons for this. One thing is that it would isolate us, the custom community, from the game. We know that if we create a kick-arse map, it stands a chance of being officially included, something that wouldn't be possible if NS's maps were developed by a closed team.
And you statement as to "get better maps and more ppl" is pure crap, i'm afraid, as i have stated, creating the boundary between 'official' and 'custom' mappers is hardly going to inspire people to make quality work, and also limiting official maps to this 'elite' team will put people off even starting to make a map.
As it stands the NS Mapping community churns out a lot of crap, but then again, it churns out a great number of beautiful maps by completely independant mappers.
And as to people working in a team, such like the ns_bast remake team, it can be beneficial since it gets the job done quicker, but creating a map from scratch as a team is a bad idea. Having to conform to the r_speeds and texture usage of other people can be a real downer, and also there's a definite possibility that at least 2 members will have a problem with each other. Bad idea if you ask me.

I can answer that. For esuna's 4000th post, he made a topic in off-topic with the word "post" 4000 times. For this, he got a post count of -4000. Since there was no user title for a negative post count, the mods gave him the title "rock bottom".
