iv been using steam for a while now and nothing terribly bad has happened to me with it, but now this just takes the biscuit...

before u read below, ns seemed to update, that or hl itself did cos the update screen came up, finished in 0.001 seconds and i clicked play game... so if this is the prob pls tell me WTH is going on! lol

started up steam, loaded cd, tryed launching ns and it goes bak to desktop. tryed sven coop, same. cs = same thing. half life (to start up training room just incase) and i cant even get into that... there are never any error msg's, it just starts game, loads game background (like on ns the 1 with 2 skulks and rines walking down hall) and then goes to desktop...

Same here, happenend right after it updated itself reaaaally quick, none of the mods will work :>

Exactly the same thing. Anyone figured out the solution or shall we just wait for another update...

Try this:

1) Shut down Steam, wait 30 seconds for it to completely unload.

2) Go into your Steam/SteamApps folder and delete (or better: rename) your platform.gcf.

3) Restart Steam. It will now redownload the platform files.

This worked for me, I hope it does for you. BTW, this is a common remedy for many, many Steam problems. biggrin.gif

p.s.: Deleting "clientregistry.blob" in the main Steam folders sometimes helps, too. But I advise you to be careful.

as this a problem with Steam and not NS I would suggest checking out steampowered.com

assuming that musicpete's ideas don't work

Close down Cheating Death if you've got it running... that was stopping me.
Xellos
Yeah, Cheating-Death was the problem, without it everything runs fine. Thanks

Must be some compatibility issue between C-D and the update then.
