Snake101
Hiya fellas. I'm Maarten Amkreutz from Holland, and on the Internet I go by the name of Snake101. I first heard about NS through a friend of mine at school, and after coincidentally seeing some screenshots and finding the homepage, my interest was peaked and I decided to download the thing. All I can say is: wow.

My first playing experience was scary though; bumped into some huge alien and got digested or something wow.gif

Anyways, is there a manual for the game to be found somewhere?

Hey all,

Been reading the posts for the last few weeks and playing for a month. I have been active in the steam forums for a while and one thing I notice right away is the lack of flaming; how refreshing.

Most of my play has been on CO, still learning maps and play mostly as rine. I am impressed with the nice people that play, and the quality of the game.

Nice job to all! SYL

hi Im James, im from San Diego i learned this game from some talk on IRC, and friends. Its a good game to play, its like a rpg/stradegy game so i like it. i have been playing this game for a long time. i got this server i wanted to fill up i dont know if im supposed to post these, or advertise so ill put it up anyways,
69.56.183.36:27015 <---- server is in Dallas
crono1
i'd say the rpg element only applies to combat, and it's only a basic exp/level up engine. and combat is irrelevent tounge.gif ns_ > co_ forever.
Inventive_Software
Hi, i'm Inventive Software (real name Jethro). I play NS on a LAN and it rocks! I've still got trouble installing Steam, as I don't have an internet connection on the NS computer. I've tried just about everything. I love NS 2 because it's easy to use, it's different from other Half-Life mods that I've played, and it's free! Kudos to the NS team!
That_Annoying_Kid
welcome inventive software!

the NS forums are a pretty chill place to kick it
irLd
hey all, im new to NS but not by any means new to HL, i play dod for cal-i team TAU formally dgf and have played hl sinces its release, oh so long ago. smile.gif names Sean Burns i reside in clifton park, new york ;D i heard about NS when it came out from some clanmates a while ago, but my high school friends was telling me about the co_ maps and now im hooked biggrin.gif
steam_must_die
howdy. I'm a halflife noob, and with DoD too much for my puny RAM and CS getting boring after about an hour, I started up on NS. I just love it and it really does recall the alien movies, much as that bothers the guy who wrote the FAQ. You may have noticed me randomly wandering pubs trying to learn the maps.

If anyone wondered why I get so utterly owned by skulks, it's because for years I've played RTCW, quite possibly the slowest moving game of all time. I can't be a skulk for more than 5 minutes without getting dizzy. I'm not even kidding.

ps - I'm a big Steam fan by the way

pps - how come no one plays the soccer mod? That's freaking genius right there.
tromik
Hey all. I used to play NS before NS Combat was introduced; didn't really get into it. Totally addicted to it now. I must say, NS has some of the nicest textures I've seen in any HL mod.

Name is Tom Ross, I'm from a town north of Toronto, Ontario.

Right now, besides NS, I'm enjoying Day of Defeat, Sven, Galactic Civilization, Star Chamber, and Homm3. Once in awhile I play U2XMP when I can find a good server, which is rare these days.
Recoup
I am Recoup...

I am from the one, and the only, Texas... just about as south as possible...

I heard about NS from both PC Gamer Magazine, and also a friend of mine, and let me add something: the combat and tactics, as well as the fun in this game are stunning and AMAZING! I cant stop the joy I feel when I get to log on, but I need a new CD Key so I'll be out of the loop for some time... GOD DAMN! *cough*

But I love EVERYONE! WOO HOO HOO HOO!

Suth
Hello, My name is Suth, but I often play under the name of Ghost, which used to be my name when I played before 2.0, needless to say, im a little rusty, I like being marine, but skulks are good too, I hate blinking fades that are every where and being eaten by onos.

I'm wondering if I can still use custom sprays in NS.

Pho3niX
As far as i know, yes you can
Spudgun
Hi all,

I've played a few games of NS with the help of TheFLC who introduced me to which first impressions is a very polished mod.

I used to play Front Line Force, but have been out of touch for a little while and I'm trying to get back into it all.

The strategy of it all really appeals although I'm shite at the moment! tounge.gif

So if anyone sees me on a server, I promise I'm trying to pick it up as quick as I can! For example, I was told after a match by my mentor that I was trying to kill a hive with a welder. Oops! Well at the time it looked like a gun! wink.gif

ya u can, same put them in the folder same way as u do with any other game

Talamor
Hey, I'm Talamor. I've been playing PC games for probably around four years, and have been console gaming long before that. I have an NES, SNES, GBA SP, N64, GC, and XBox, but i mainly just play xbox as far as console games go, but a little GC every now and then is refreshing. I got Half-Life as soon as i found out Counter-Strike was a mod for it (I had heard great things about the PC version because of the somewhat distant release for XBox) So I got HL and downloaded Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat and saw NS v 2.0 on the front page of fileplanet/gamespy (it had aparently just been released) i read up on it, it sounded cool, so i downloaded it. It would start up the mod but i could never connect to a server. I uninstalled it. Then after steam came out i thought, hey, what about that cool sounding mod i read about awhile ago? so i downloaded what i thought i needed, 3.0 beta 1, 3.0 beta 4 and 3.0 beta 4a. I started up NS once it was done DLing and installing, but it couldn't find any NS servers! so i have yet to play the game, but who knows. i probably just made some stupid mistake and loaded them in the wrong order. oh well, i'll get it going sooner or later

If you are too lazy to read all that, i'll sum it up for you.
I saw ns, thought it was cool, wouldn't work, uninstalled it. Then steam comes out a few months later, i think of ns, install it, steam can't find any servers,, and i have yet to play a game of ns

Hi @All !

My name is Tom. I am from Poland.

Hi!

New to this forum, not so very new to NS. ^_^ I've been watching over my boyfriend's shoulder since last year and started playing since February, on and off and more on these recent weeks.

I'm from the good ol' USA, in a good ol' suburb near Chicago.

and I hope to draw some more NS related stuff, especially the weaponry, more often.
Odin_Bloodlust
Eyya, nice forum. I've been playing various types of games for all my life, on Sony and PC, and few of them were quite legendary. One of them is Alien vs. Predator 2, which i played a lot with my friend on various LAN's... One day i found Natural Selection file in one cd from PC magazine with picture attached, and on it was some marine wearing dark green armor which really draw my attention smile.gif and this reminded me of AVP 2 and my favorite mp game: Counter-Strike. But then i did not have an internet so there was nothin i could do, and my HL version was wrong. Untill now.... I have some troubles trying to make NS working, but in time i will eventually succeed.... and start firing enormous amounts of bullets over the aliens. Just kidding, for most commaders would kill me personnaly, and people knows me of going berserk... Yup, Serbia is my place, new cable internet providers showing up, providing the nice play opportunities. See ya all...

Sup. I just played my first NS game a few minutes ago. seems like NS is a very good, well thought out game. i first heard about the game through the CS forums, many people would mention it being a good hl mod, so i came over to the site and read up about it. it sounded fun so i downloaded it and now im very confused but after a week or so it should all fall into place. tounge.gif

Welcome aboard, camel fetus.

I hope that as you mature into a full-grown camel baby, you will continue to enjoy NS. It rox0rz j00r c0x0rz.

well hi everyone, my name's Steve i live in a small town in central wisconsin. I have gamed since i was 4. I have a nes, super-nes nintendo 64, PS2, virtual boy, game boy, gameboy pocket, gameboy color, gameboy sp. I just started playing CS recently, and i was looking through the forums at steampowered.com when i found a sticky post of good and bad hl mods, this 1 was on the list, and i checked it out, and was happy to find that some1 made this kind of game for HL. I was instantly reminded of Savage (a game with the same blend of rts and shooter, unfortunantly, the shooter part of savage wasn't great imho) so i'm in the process of downloading right now.

Well, i hope to see u all on a ns server soon, and if u see me, take it easy on me, remember, noobs have feelings too. smile.gif

Hi, i wanted to say hello to the NS comunity i m new and a noob
and i had also already taken a noob question with me

but i ll ask later

first i want to tell a littel bit about me

i m 24, i played first DoD then Cs then BG and now since 2 days i m playing NS
and its cool.
I m living in Austria Vienna i m also playing under name Pipoo so may u see me playing on a server
I m playing HL mods since 1.5 years now.

And now to my noob question smile-fix.gif
i saw some people using as a Skulk their hands and nails for attacks
i tryed to find out what button taht makes happen but i couldnt find it.

Do somebody know how Skulks can use their sharp nails for attacks ?
I also had the feel some people can do somehow very big jumps with their skulk

Only waht i can do is just run around and bite (and die). tounge.gif skulk.gif

Snidely
Pipoo:

It depends wether you're playing Classic or Combat. Look at the scoreboard while playing. The map name should be somewhere near the top in brackets. If the map begins with ns, then you're playing Classic; if it says co, then it's Combat. Eaxamples of Classic maps are ns_bast, ns_tanith and ns_nothing. An example of a Combat map is co_daimos.

Skulks need their third ability to use "leap". (The animation sounds most similar to what you describe.)

To get leap, you need to
- get two hives up (only on Classic)
- purchase "unlock next ability" (only on Combat).

To use leap, select your third weapon by pressing 3 (the default key). When you press fire, you should hear a little screeching sound and leap a fair distance. Note that you leap towards the center of the screen, so you may not seem to leap if you're looking at the ground.

Leap does hardly any damage, but you can use leap, then switch back to bite (weapon 1) in midair.

Hey, I'm Phil, but I'm better known as Dinn. I'm from a town in Ohio that no ones ever heard of, and I learned about NS from a friend of mine who was pretty hardcore about it. He goes by either Dekard or Dyshein. anyway, I have lots of free time, and will probably beplaying alot in the future. I'm new and willing to learn. I was also wondering if there will be a NS mod for H2.
Proton_Pack
Hello everyone. I'm Matt from Ontario, Canada. I actually started playing NS quite a while ago, but due to problems with my copy of Half-Life I wasn't able to get it working for quite some time (I think around 9 months or so). It has finally been fixed, though, and I'm definitely looking forward to playing NS again (downloading it right now).

I first learned about the game from posters on the GameFAQs message boards. They were talking about it back when it was still pretty new, so I decided to give it a shot. I found it fun, but my computer was really terrible so it lagged me quite a bit. Hopefully now that I have a better PC I'll be playing a lot more often.

I go by the name Lahey in-game, if that matters.

Hiya all,

the name is Jan and I come all the way up north of europe, Finland to be exact. I'm an aging gamer (27 actually, not sure if that is to be considered old biggrin-fix.gif), and I was introduced to the world of computer games with Commodore and Spectrum (and nintendo etc) back in the days.. I still play regulary when I have some free time from work and other hobbies. smile-fix.gif

I stumbled across NS quite a while ago while reading some game-related discussions in Slashdot. One poster referred to this obscure Natural Selection MOD for Half Life (a game that I did not own at the time) praising its team play qualities and superb community. After a quick look around in the NS website I just added it to my To-Be-Checked bookmarks folder, where it lay dormant for almost a year. Then finally in the begining of 2004, with all the hype from HL2 and Doom3, I decided to buy myself a brand new comp for gaming - and with the ATI gfx card I got a coupon for Valve games... and along with it came HL. During the summer I was cleaning up my bookmarks and I found the NS link again, checked the site, was impressed with the storyline and feature list, downloaded the mod, spend hours in the spectator mode trying to learn the game and tactics and finally gave it a try and I've been hooked to the game ever since. biggrin-fix.gif My gameplay is very much focused on defensive and supportive roles, so you will see me gorgeing (although playing Aliens is still a bit of a struggle for me) or being the welder / miner / scanner / guy-covering-your-backs during NS games.

Hello from another new player!

I heard about the mod about a year ago, but actually "discovered" it just two days ago while browsing Steams mod page. Been playing like crazy since then tounge.gif.

I have to say the mod is very well produced. Audio and visuals are top notch, considering the age of the engine used! The atmosphere/environment is greatly executed as well.

Of course, nothing is perfect. The physics cant always keep up with rest of the game, players getting stuck occasionaly, clumsiness of flying and wall walking...etc. Some bugs here and there, but understandable because of the mod is still beta.

Anyways, so far its been a great experience discovering new features, strategies and other elements of this fine mod. I agree about the higher learning curve compared to other mods, but once you get past the initial learning phase, its all pure enjoyment.

See you on the servers! asrifle.gif
